students behavior

I let my students know that I have expectation regarding their behavior in my class I ask them ack in the some professional manner that I try to hold myself to I explain that during my thirty years working in the field that I am teaching now I have had tto learn to behave in a more professional manner and I am willing to help them to work to achieve the same goal. they seam to respect and work to follow my lead.

Electronic TD Lists

I've always used a To Do list to manage my time. My downfall sometimes was taking the time to rewrite the list, and possibly reprioritize. Since I work at my computer most of the day, I decided to convert my TD List to a Word document. I keep that document open but minimized. When I complete a task it's easy to simply click on it, erase the completed task, and see what the next one is. This obviates the need to stop and rewrite the list. I also keep a modicum of a calendar in a second section of my TD list. Important events, which are usually associated with a task or some action on my part, are kept in chronological order. As these dates move closer it's easy to simply move them up into my TD list. Of course I keep a more detailed calendar in the normal fashion, but this method keeps my calendar synchronized with my TD list.

Create an enviorment the makes cheating less appealing.

Inform your students that when they cheat they are only cheat themselves. My students know I am available for them for additional tutoring. In fact I use my lunch or breaks to provide that service. The ultimate goal is to have students suceed.

Lead by example

The key component of gaining the respect of your students is by leadership. It the old cliche "Lead by example". Of course we discuss professionalism, but showing and setting it in play is the best way.

Make course requirement clear to students

If you make a mistake in class

New Instructors

You must find out your teaching strengths

Creating an istrutor image

I hopre instructors do not have to break the bank to look professional by dress !!!

The success of the student

I think it is important for the insturctor to show that each and every student is important. The student's success starts from day 1 up to the end. alas

Preparation

It is very important that the instructor is well prepared and he/she knows exactly what to be said in class. Alas

Ready to Quit Students

What are all the stretegies we need to work with Ready to quit students ?

Humanities and The Kinesthetic Learner

Some students come towards Humanities courses with some interest, experience, and success in these interests. Most kinesthetic students have had no success in these interests, and, therefore, they are predisposed to dislike and resent content. Solving their interest problems takes more than approaches that would help, for example, a culinary instructor to manage diverse interests of culinary students.

Humanities and The Kinesthetic Learner

I use "models" in my class. I distribute models of what the course requires, and I post them on the Student Portal. I cannot figure out why so many do not get that the model is the paradigm to follow. I ask them if they think I want results "somehwat" like the model or "exactly" like the model, and they claim to understand. Yet, when it comes, to margins, and line spacing, and title pages, etc. They do not get it. Any suggestions?

Rationale for Learning

How many of us believe what was stated in "Rationale for Learning" that we are educational salespeople of the courses and their contents like car salespeople ?

Students that cheat with help of the privious class.

Why is it students feel the need to give answers to students coming into a class so they don't have to study?

Silent in class, but not in lab?

I have a student that is very quiet in class, and is an 'A' student. In lab, she opens up, and shines. Based on her lab, I know she will be successful in the field. Do I continue to attempt to make her more involved in class?

meditation

I have started a practice of meditation at the beginning of this year. Two time 20 minutes is my goal. Often I only get to do the first one in the morning which is still good. Nevertheless this has been a very rewarding, energy giving process. I think it kept me sane in this rather difficult year. If I miss one I realize that I run out of my calm much easier and get agrevated much faster.

Stress relief

There are certain things I do to relieve stress: - go for a walk - it is amazing how refreshed I feel after the walk. -take a siesta - a short afternoon nap is a great way to energize yourself. - exercise - the most enjoyable exercise classes are Zumba and Bollywood dance exercise. I highly recommend these !!

What causes stress ?

For me balancing work and family is the biggest source of stress. Also working from home is great in many ways but also stressful as I always feel like I am working but also attending to something or the other ( phone call, kids' homework, housework etc ) I am constantly trying to stay calm and multitask and often getting stressed in the process. Do any of you feel this way as well ?
