Task management with less stress

Task managing should not be stressful. The things that you know you already have in order should be reviewed for changes and then all other task at hand should be prioritized. Each week I make a list and review it on Wednesday to make sure that the rest of the week will still go as according to plan. This will allow me to anticipate any changes and adjustment that need to be made for the week ahead.

no-homework Ned

I had a student in my last class that didn't do any of the homework and was late to most, if not all of the classes. It was a one night a week class in a 6 week term. I feel I gave him every opportunity to make up his work and yet on the last day of class he still had nothing for me. If it weren't for the homework, he would have passed the class. Any suggestions on what else I could have done?

Stress Reduction

Sometimes I will watch TV while I grade papers. It helps me reduce stress.

Stress

I believe I have less stress now than when I was raising a young family. Do you have more stess now or less?? Why?? Thanks Fred K

Ice Breakers

I liked the first day assignment and ice breaker activities. Looks like we'll be flying some paper airplanes around the room before the first week is over.

Grading Comments

It is important to provide constructive feedbak commnents when grading.

Inappropriate vocabulary with challenging students

In my first week ever as a teacher, I noticed that some students in order to make the point across the room they used inappropriate vocabulary even after I pointed out in the beginning of the class. So, I lead by example!!! By the second week the incident continue and I stop the class and gave them my own experience of life. They took it so personal that I did not hear any other unprofessional language.

Lecturing as if there were no one there.

One of my first lectures went on for 45 minutes with no break for questions or allow the students to become involved. Boy, did I learn the hard way ! Fortunately it happened in my first day of teaching.

Cheating

Physical layout makes a difference in the classroom to avoid temptation. Rearranging student positions usually brings the cheating student to light. Roy R.

Turning in assignments late

Emphasize the impotance of timeliness of assignments both in the syllabus and orally if possible.Explain deductions and how grade can be affected. This will eliminate many of the "excuse makers". Roy R.

MAKING A LIST

it helps me to write things down on a notepad, and since I got my iPhone, I use the Sticky Notes App on my phone. I always have my phone with me, so it makes it easy for me to jot down tasks and prioritize...

Homework that is not graded

I assign students homework and unfortunately since these are not graded and students are aware some do not turn it in. Any suggestions?
