Back up plans are necessary because of adjustments in content to adapt to learners. When an unanticipated need arises we still need to cover the content.

I always create a new test for students who miss and it must be taken in the next class they attend. Its imperitive to give a new test as students are creative in copying and providing their friends with the test.
I love my smart board it makes the power point presentations pop.
I have a great club and officers who really go out of their way to welcome new students and make them feel comfortable.

At orientation, Program Directors meet with the students in their discipline. I personally have each student fill out an index card with all their information and what they expect from the program. They get to meet the students starting with them and begin to bond from day 1

Real important to the adult learner who wants to learn in minimum amount of time. They want imformation at orientation.
Making each class dynamic and interesting and having them involved brings them back.

As a former police officer I constantly tell my students about doing the right thing. I talk to them about consequences. When police over step their authority the courts step in and change the rules. This is what appears to have happened to our industry. It only takes one bad incident to affect all the good schools and we all pay for someone not doing the right thing.

Discussing objectives clearly defines making good use of classroom time. Students know what to expect.

The criminal justice field is no place for shy students. Personally I try to establish a relationship with the student and slowly incorporate the student by reading in class, answering question. Finally I place them with a more outgoing student or in a study group.
