Ask a question from your peers to help you in your professional work. Seek different points of view on a topic that interests you. Start a thought-provoking conversation about a hot, current topic. Encourage your peers to join you in the discussion, and feel free to facilitate the discussion. As a community of educators, all members of the Career Ed Lounge are empowered to act as a discussion facilitator to help us all learn from each other.

Using Blooms Taxonomy to determine if your teaching style is getting t

Incorporating Blooms questioning techniques into your sectional review, or even your daily review should be able to give you good indicators of whether or not your presentation of the information is being retained or better yet there is actual comprehension of the presented information, and if you are really lucky some students may even be able to demonstrate practical application with few mistakes. If you are unfamiliar with Blooms it is a multi step process way to stimulate students’ thought processes. Step one is knowledge, a simple recall of info. Step two comprehension. Step three application. Step four analysis, etc. I use this method of questioning the students to see how much of the information I presented that day has been retained and depending on the primary “sensory modalities” I was using that day Is how I will try to tailor tomorrows discussion. After watching the trend in comprehension for a couple of days I believe I have a pretty good feel for the best way to reach the largest percentage of the class efficiently and effectively.

Reinforcement and Praise

I believe reinforcement and praise are both personal, how can you differentiate situations for both to be used?

Creating Lesson Plans Via:Ed 101

This course is sequenced in a manner that lead to an efficent approach to the subject matter that I will incorporate in my classes during question, answer and review

lecture style

it is important that instructor will not stick to one method or style used in the lecture but in order tobring the students attention ,the instructor should change his styleusing different style even in the same lecture.

first day of the course

the first day of the course has a very important impact on the students .this require the instructor to prepare for this day before the classes start by being a model, encourage and motivating the students so that make the students make a resolution to continue enrolling in the course.

syllabus

it is very important students should be familiar with syllabus on the first session of the coures and the instrutor should take enough time to read and explain each point in the syllabus

instructional method

after discussing any part of the lecture subject and in order to make sure that students under stand the subject the instructor ask uestions and see how many students were able to answerecorrectly also you may ask one students to sumerise what was saidin the last few minutes.

Adult learning and attention span

I have definitely seen the necessity to tailor teaching to the adult. Attention span and learning mode are both incredibly important. Not only does a teach need to assess and vary the methodology of teaching, whether it is auditory, visual, or hands-on, but also needs to ensure that the length of the content is not over 15-18 minutes. Lastly, covering the appropriate number of topics, 5-7, is also important to ensure we aren't overloading students and setting them up for failure.

Objectives, assessments and standards

So often I have found myself as a student at multiple levels unprepared for class simply because the instructor sped through the syllabus, did not set learning objectives or didn't communicate the standards and expectations for evaluating my academic success in a clear way. To expect our students to meet standards and to do well when assessed, they have to know what the standards are and what they are being assessed on. This not only creates confidence, but better directs the learning efforts of the students.

Safe and supportive learning environment

I have found it to be incredibly important to set the expectations for the learning environment the first day of class. Encouraging students to collaborate, listen and respect each others needs and opinions and to establish an "open door policy" in a philosophical sense for new ideas and questions allows learning to occur and continue to occur throughout the course. Learning is a collaborative and continuing process and if students don't feel supported or safe in their ability to interact with their peers and teacher this process can't happen.

Developing a teaching style as a new instructor

From both my limited experience as a new instructor and also from my Max Knowledge learning in ED101, I have come to learn the value of collaborating and learning from my colleagues. From sitting in on classes taught by colleagues it has helped me immensely in developing my own style. I have come to see what works and what doesn't work for me, customizing technique to my own strengths and weaknesses.

Active Learning

I believe active learning is an effective way of instructing and educating.

questioning in a hands on environment

as a culinary instructor i find was to question my students invividually while providing hands on guidance through a process. if they get stuck at a step, it provides me a great opportunity to review the previous steps and lead them to an appropriate outcome while gaging thier comprehension... in a one on one setting i can easily see gaps in thier knowledge and ask the right questions to lead them to formulate thier own answers, prodivng praise and reinforcement when necessary. this one on one time gives them a sense of feeling special and gently pushes them to grow on their own as well as in the lab class settings.
