Online Reputation Management Tips for Career Colleges

“The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear.” -Socrates

Are we immersed in the information age or the disinformation age? It is all a matter of perspective. The internet provides an open forum that allows users to contribute information that the rest of us are left to decipher for truth. Overall, as a rule, we tend to give the benefit of the doubt to online information and believe what we read. Statistics show that nearly 73% of consumers believe that information they read online is accurate and trustworthy.

Performance Metrics for Admissions

The job of an admissions professional has certainly changed and become increasingly challenging in recent years.  I'm curious, how is someone working to help students enroll in college held accountable for performance without crossing the lines of pay for performance?

Also, how can we strengthen the admissions profession in this sector?

Fabulous question 1:

How would you describe the student body’s personality?
Each college campus has a personality, revealed through its student body. Of course, not everyone on campus has exactly the same personality, but a student body tends to value certain qualities.

For example, some campuses are politically liberal; some are conservative. A student body might especially value the arts, or athletics or community service. This question helps you determine if you might fit in well among your potential classmates.

Fabulous question 2:

How is this school distinctive?
Each school has a unique story. In fact, most schools… >>>

Avoiding Misrepresentation in Admissions - It's Time!

The recent Vatterott ruling has many talking ...and very nervous.  Needless to say, mystery shopping and training are at heightened levels.  HOWEVER...I have an additional idea.  What about training the team to help students make an informed decision that might just happen to increase enrollments at the same time?

If your admissions training program still uses outdated sales techniques and offers little counseling services...it may be time to consider something new.  In addition, please make sure your training progam and practices are legally vetted.

Sounds preachy I know...but this sector is just too important to so many to… >>>

Admissions

The Admissiond Rep has to love what they do in order to be successful!

Material

I was impressed that I learned new material, being that I have an M.A. I just love learning and reading, this was no exception!

Graduation importance

Postsecondary education schools are not required to to hold a graduation ceremony for their graduates.

Though I understand this may not necessarily need to be required I am a little shocked at the idea that certain school would actually opt out of this. Graduations acts as ameans of something for enrolled students to look forward to and work towards. It is a celebration of their acheivements and goals.

As an admissions rep I also find showing pictures of graduation ceremonies and explaining to students about graduation often excites them. Potential students being able to picture themselves in a cap and… >>>

Course Material

This was a really great course with the perfect amount of material covered.  I enjoyed learning at my own pace.

What have you learned being in Admissions?

Being in Admissions is different for me! It's exciting and new! I get to see students who want to suceed and I also get to see older adults who want to change careers. Tell me what you get to see working in admissions.

Admissions Training

I really enjoyed the Admissions training course. I received some very good ideas on what questions to ask during the rest of my training. I also loved the idea of the resource book so I can keep all of my training organized!

Multi Cultural Backgrounds Communication

This course was great and as a first time participant I can say I did learn a lot.  One thing that I would like to see for future training sessions is, if relevant, to speak on different types of students not just your regurlar one, such as out of high school or a transfer from different school but those other groups out there such as former military and other cultures.

The new sales

Advertising has changed drastically in the last years.  Selling definitely needs to change also.

The Social Media Impact on Higher Education Admissions

Nearly 3.2 million students graduate high school annually and 80% of them use social networking sites.  What does this mean for colleges' and universities' enrollment strategies?

Recommendation as the New Advertising
Today's student represents the connected consumer.  The connected consumer is savvy and uses their social networks for research, using both public information available on the internet as well as word-of-mouth information gathered from others in their networks and even from strangers.  For example, if a student wants an opinion on a school, they won't necessarily call the school; they may post a question in a social network… >>>
