Student Retention

The online learning reinforced some of the approaches that I take with my students such as consistent feedback, allowing them to speak, sharing personal experiences and encouraging participation. I plan to continue to do these things as I continue with my teaching career.

names

i will remember my students names because it is a sign of respect. students like to know that their instructor remembers them

Enhancing Student Retention

I liked the idea of showing excitement for your class, keeping eye contact with students and acknowledging your students while they are speaking shows respect and that you care. I also learned to to pay attention to body language. I will use these techniques in motivating my students.

love your class and it will grow

Love your class and it will grow, I am a true believer of this statement. If you are teaching a class that you really enjoy the excitement will show, the time will fly by, the students are more likely make spread the word that "you have to take this class" other students will feel more at ease with talking to you even if you haven't had them in your class yet. So like planting a tree, you must take care when planting it to ensure a solid foundation, check up on it daily, and give plenty of attention.

My Plan

I have decided to focus on REFOCUSing as soon as possible.  I am going to incorporate more real-life scenarios and  interactive activities with my course.  My class can be so simple (medical terminology) and seem so easy to understand, but I do have some that stuggle and I think this will help them.  It won't hurt my over achievers either.

reflection on course

I was hoping that ths course would give me pointers on how to motivate the youg adult learner. However i teach in a program with fixed days and hours. So some of the techniques i liked butwere not possible to use in the program i teadh in. In addition there is an assumption that if you are an adult you hae the maturity to be self controled, motivated , and can focus and prioritize. The students coming out of high school today, een adult by age do not have the maturity for the automony and self control to do aolot… >>>

EDSE 102 - Retaining Student Retention

I enjoyed taking this course.  I found it to helpful in that it "reminded me" of some important ways to help students succeed in their classes.

This class was also helpful in that it "reminded" me of some bad habits that we can slip into...Specifically, saying Um,  Uh, instead of being quiet, thinking, and THEN talking!

Thank you for a great class!

Going back to school

I have been teaching for a while but being a student is very new to me. ED102 showed me what I need to retain as well as how to help others retain. I consider myself a good teacher. These lessons and the short videos show me what great teachers do. I would love one day just to get to very good. Maybe this will help me get there.
