Questioning during power point lecture

I have inserted power point slides that include questions based on what we have just covered.  This is done several times through out the PP lecture, great for those visual learners!  For instance: we just covered blood flow through the heart and body. Questions on the next slide would include "which vessel carries de oxygenated blood to the heart?" Then list the vessels, and students answer.  The answer is then highlighted with the next click and also a visual.   Or "what is the goal for the body to use compensatory mechanisms to keep blood flowing?"  next slide is the… >>>

english as a second language

This couse has shown me method of reinforcement for my students that have English as a second language

Turning Training into Performance

We are creating competency checklists for our students to help them gain proficiency and confidence in the skills they are learning.  Focus on the higher level thinking is a big part of these competency checklists.

Student Learning and Assessment

I always enjoy the classes! The information is well-organized to enhance my learning and to give me what I need to teach the students. I will definitely utilize this information in my practice.

How I will utilize information from ED101

I plan on utilizing the information learned in this module to strengthen my teaching techniques and focus on specific learning styles that will help my students reach optimal success.

Sharing Knowledge

I like to give specific expamples of experiences in the cosmetology industry to help the students learn through my past problems and accomplishments

Smart Student Motivation

Having an extremely knowlegible student presents a challege in keeeping him/her motivated. One method I use is to have that student help other students who are having problems, which in turn keeps the knowlegible student motivated by allowing him/her to show their knowledge.

ed 108

I would say that using open questions can bring a new level to the learning enviroment. I like that these types of question open the door for other student to want to give their input.

ED 101

I will return to, and retake, this ED101 course if and when I have an opportunity to teach didactically in a classroom. I will need to brush up on how to organize a syllabus, construct lesson plans, and introduce myself and create a safe classroom environment. I will want to refamiliarize myself to the methods of content delivery and types of learning. I currently instruct in a lab setting only, so my focus is on clinic protocol, clinical skills assessment, process of care, and documentation. I instruct this in a live clinical/laboratory setting and am currently not responsible for lecture… >>>

Creativity

My wisdom, best practices, action plans, and successes!!!  Well, much success for me depends on the reflection of the students.  I have tried many different types of lectures and have gotten much feedback.  I try to meet each and every student where they are but I am finding it difficult to sustatain.  I am now focusing my attention on the majority and encouraging the other students to see me personally to fill in the gaps.  Teaching is a challenge -- I am a type A person and I want to be successful in ALL that I do.  When one student is… >>>

Effective Teaching Strategies

I can now blend my years of experience with my new knowledge.  These will make me more productive and creative in the field.

Greater flexibility in the classroom

I am now thinking about how to plan for the needs of the classroom on a particular day. I believe that I've exerted some flexibility with my plans, but this mainly involves removing content based upon time. I want to continue polling and assessing what students need more of and less of. I also want to have a few different options prepared.

Review Questions - rodeo ride

The day after information has been a ask the students different types of questions (OPEN & Closed).  Random students are asked questions and given 8 Seconds to respond.  They enjoy this and it seems to improve test Scores.

Max Knowledge

A great experience.

Best practices, action plans, successes and challenges!

I am a new instructor. I am both nervous and excited. This program is very informative and have given me the tools necessary to complete my tasks. I will attempt to implement all the new tools to engage students. I believe pre-planning is essential.

ED 106

Learned alot about how students react to instructors.

Best Practices

Good course in regards to knowing your students and being prepared for class.  Very informative.

rolling powerpoint

Placing a rolling powerpoint about a specific topic for students arriving to the class has enhance their desire to learn more about that particular topic.

ED111

This is very good tool to change up the lecture days to involve the student more and break it up through out the time during lectures.

messy desk, less student respect

1.  I frequenty have a messy desk.  We have very limited work and storage areas and my books and papers are stacked on my desk.  I know where they are located though.  I can easily find them.  I will make an effort to make my desk more organized though we infrequently have students in the the faculty area.

2.  Managing "diffuclt students" many of the suggestions were very helpful. I intend to imiplement the "observer" technique with the know-it-all student.  I have already initiated group work with my students which was very successful.
