ED114 Questioning in the Classroom

There was some use to taking this course. Most were common sense but a good reminder for best practise.

flipped classsroom

Fliipped classroom is a new idea to me.  somewhat laborious, needs a lot of prep.  but it is a good idea.  Every time students are in charge of learning they learn deeper and the ownership is rewarding and self satisfying.  One barrier is how to grade students.  if based on their own pace, what time tables should be utilized if any?  Cohorts can no longer exist since students are at different pace.  Thanks.

Structured notes work for Sales training

I created a participant guide with structured notes to serve as an active learning opportunity. Sales staff had a reference guide afterwards for their resource to refer to in the future.

Action Plans

I intend to use more small groups to access and process the material in a non-threatening atmosphere.  I will also practice more eye contact and "wait time" before answering my own questions!

ED101 INTO ACTION

With the knowledge I learned today, I am inspired to apply it in my classroom. This makes my lab projects more engaging by using the participatory technique.

moving around the class room

i am going to rearrange my class room to have more flow and movment to it for my students.

Making students feel important

The small breaks in the lecture will reach a lot of students, by helping them stay focused.

Using active learning activities to supplement and reinforce lecture

After a curriculum rewrite of my program, management has been encouraging us to implement more student involvement into our lectures. Although we have active learning in lab as the majority of our students learning, the first day of the week is usually all lecture. By periodically turning off the PPT and getting up in the classroom during that first day to take a look at and discuss the subject just covered in the lecture /PPT,  I have drastically improved student engagement and made an improvement in student knowledge retention as well.

Action Plan

After taking the ED101 course, I feel more prepared to teach my upcoming course. Tips like developing a lesson plan, instructional delivery techniques, and ways to better engage students are methods that I will employ.

Instructional Delivery

I personally believe that it is very important as instructors to establish a rapport with your students on day one. Taking the time to engage in exercises that allow students to share information about themselves is very important. Not only can the instructor get to know their students but this is also beneficial for the class as a whole. It is very important that the instructor share information as well...especially their challenges with their educational process. I personally make the effort to get to know all the names of my students in every class that I teach.

I Did It!!!

Thank you

Max Knowledge

This is such a great tool, this is what I've needed and so happy this was offered to me. I want to be the best at what I do, this for sure will lead me in that direction.

Being the best

What I have learned in this training course was how to be the best at what I do. Showing the students the knowledge and skills that have helped be successful in my career. Being engaging with the students. I greet each of my students daily. I have assignments already ready for them when they walk into the classroom and lab.

I've learned in this training the adult attention span in the classroom when it comes to lecturing. Limit the time, get them enaged with different activities and games. Make it educational fun and want the students to guess on what's… >>>

What works

What works for me is adding  videos and pictures to my lectures.

Attitude is everything!

It is true, you are the teacher, the leader of this flock. But must your attitude reflect distance or superiority?

No, in my experience students respond better to professors they can relate to.

Your ability to balance knowledge and professionalism with true empathy and care demonstrates that you want the very best for them.

When students see your heart and passion - they work harder to "please you" and fulfill their obligations.

Delivery

I have a wide range of ages in my classroom and I learned that I need to incorporate different styles of teting material to benefit all students.

Instructors

As an Instructor you have to get a read on your class, connect and deliver the information to the class at hand. As we learn each group learns at different styles.

5 point scale for class participation

Liked the 5 point scale with negative points for disrupting the classroom.  Respected the examples of how disrupting the classroom learning can be as simple as a student leaving the room during lecture.  Thanks.

Reinforcement pay attention to the B players

Interesting about the Stars, B players and the Low performers.  I appreciated the comments on how to handle the Stars in class;  they are often the ones who answer questions and participate in discussions, to the detriment of the other students.  Pulling information and paying attention to the middle performers, of which an organization or classroom could be as many as 75%, is crucial to the success of the whole class, in my opinion.  Helpful.  Thanks.

Questions help students learn.

Usually I find that if 1 student has a question, there are 3 to 5 other students that have the same question, but are affraid to ask.
