Making sure teachers and students can use the information is key to successful learning. Classes can be taught synchrously or asynchronously or even using both methods. I also realized the importance of the steps of the teaching process. Just like in face to face teaching, the student must know where they are going in the lessons and see a pattern of delivery. In my state many students do not have access to high speed internet.
Front-loading the content of the course seems like a good idea for the motivated student. Communicating with the student is critical for success.
It is important to determine and identify the appropriate method of teaching suitable for the student needs (i.e synchronous and asynchronous). Synchronous and asynchronous ways of teaching both have their importance. Teaching at a high-school level, I feel that the students need "to touch base" a few times a week or they do not get their stuff done or ask questions. They need the face to face for sure.

In a synchronous environment, the instructor and students are more involved and engaged in the learning process whereas in an asynchronous environment instructors develop a more organized course so students can truly learn in a hands-off, self-paced learning environment.
