I"ve learned how to influence my presence as a online instructor and to make myself relatable and available.

I learned of how the student develops before the world of technology that is directed to studies in different specialties.

I like the idea of having the students give a background of themselves, their interests and their goals via the learning resource platform.  It keeps a written record which allows students to refer to a persons goals at a later date while findong similarities among peer groups.

I learned that even in an online course, it is still important to get to know your students. It is always great to introduce yourself to your students because this helps make you a bit more approachable whenever students need extra help.

In my experience educating, the most effective way to achieve credibility and respect with students is by being simple, clear, deep, facilitating and demonstrating experiences through the teaching of skills.

I learned that just the same as with anything that you are using to benefit you, you want to have confidence in that thing and what qualifies it to be used for your benefit. As an instructor we have to make sure the students are confident in our abilities to instruct them and impart our knowledge on them.

You must project a manner that is both authority and warm and opening as to not exclude anyone. Academic credentials are important but how you interact with your students determines your relationship.

The importance of connecting with faculty.

Projecting a Presence online means initiating and leading a class or discussion, but not dominating it. Moderating a discussion, but making sure it does not get out-of-hand,  is very important.  This takes a lot of practice and timing.

Everything I bring to the table, from academics to training to experience is important.

A simply biography can help students understand your credentials.  Giveing them a pic and bio can help them assimilate you into their learning core.  Letting them know about you (hobbies, interests, inc) can act as an ice breaker and lead to the development of trust. respect and security necessary to facilitate a wonderful on line eexperience.

Ive learnd about the importance to connect with the students and interact with them in a significant and timley manner. It's important to make them relay with us trough exerience and professionalism, and to be available troughout the course.

It is very important to prepare ourselves professionally and mentally to give and demostrate the skills needed to give the course.

and asynchronous methods to achive a effective relationship with students.

The importance of managing your class, establising authority with professional credentials

Hello All,

This module has reinforced 15 years of online teaching:  Discussion groups, especially a community discussion where students and instructors can interact as regular human beings is important.  It can replace online what we miss from in-house:  chatting with students before and after class, sharing a life moment in class, waving across campus etc.

Introductory posts are an effective way to get instructors and students to interact with one another in an informative way that helps the learning process. I have realized many helpful hints about my students regarding their needs and past academic experiences through introductory posts.

Kindly,
Amy

Performing ice breakers and a "get to know you session" is a good habit when beginning courses. Also, informing the students of the expectation as well as syllabus on the first day is very helpful to the students as well.
