I learned how to make sure that the students know my presence as the professor for the online course. Some tips, is to create a quick video clip with narratives and also establishing guidelines through virtual office hours and communication.
Projecting your presence means more than sitting behind a computer and letting your students know you exist. It is about also getting to know the people on the other side on a somewhat personal level and letting them know why you are qualified to instruct their course.

I think including some personal as well as the professional info in the faculty bio is essential. It does help the student see you as a person.

There are many ways to project your presence. Explaining your academic achievements and accomplishments provides security in that they will be learning from someone who has extensive experience. It is equally as important to show your personal side so that students feel encouraged to approach you when they need you.
Excellent mention of reaching out to each student individually by the first week. I usually reach out to then using a general email but using a more personal email will make them feel more cared for and improve their trust in me than a general email. I still plan on using a designed email since reaching out with a unique email to almost 100 students by the first week would be a daunting task. But using a designed email and adding a few personal touches should add the needed personal contact.

I learned that as an instructor, I want to have a relationship with my students, but also maintain authority and presense. I want break the ice by introducing ourselves, but provide my credentials, experience, and experience to what lead me to become their intructor. This will set the tone for the course and the teacher-student relationship.
