PAy attention to students. Syllabus, syllabus, syllabus! Students need structure and attention.
The % reduction in points for a late assignment is better than my current points-per-day deduction. I'm not sure why I haven't thought of that previously, but I will start next semester.
A Syllabus is the golden rule. It will help the students understand everything that is taking place in the classroom and it helps you to ensure that the students follow and abide by it.
Reviewing the syllabus on the first class to set the stage for the expectations and how each student can succeed in the class along with the due dates for assignments and penalties for late assignments.
I learned that setting clear expectations and providing a structured classroom environment helps ease students’ concerns and gives them a clear understanding of what to expect. This helps them feel more confident and prepared learn.
I have learned in this module the importance of setting the expectations and requirements through the visual aid of the syllabus, and the need for grabbing the students interest and attention during your first meeting to get them excited about the course and career they have chosen.
I need to be spending more time discussing the Syllabus the first day that we meet.
Be clear about what you expect from your students and what they can expect from you and the class. When designing activities, include ones that have teamwork as part of it. Not allowing late assignments helps prepare them for the workforce, as being late or turning in stuff late out there is not acceptable.
Fostering positive rapport with students and encouraging them to seek assistance when needed. Breaking complex material into manageable segments to facilitate comprehension and promoting the use of spaced study techniques to support retention and long-term learning.
To be direct and set boundaries early on!

Setting clear expectations and creating a positive classroom environment can make a big difference in how successful students are. I have found that students do better when they know what is expected of them and understand why they are doing an assignment. In my classroom, I can apply this by treating projects more like real world assignments, giving students clear expectations and deadlines, and helping them understand how the skills they are learning will apply to the workplace.
After going through this course I have learned that what I have been doing is on track with the cousre.
Clear expectations with students on the first day of class using the course syllabus will help set the tone for the rest of the class term.
I have learned to be precise and straight to the point of what my syllabus is to my students. This will help them know the difference in expectations and requirements.
Establishing the criteria for class is vital. The syllabus can become the road map for students follow throughout the term.
The first day as well as the first week is very important. Explaining class expectations, skills that will be performed and day that they will be performed unless unexpected changes are needed. Explain grading system and deadlines for assignments.
One new thought for me was giving examples of assignments or projects at the beginning of the course. I do give them a PreTest as an example already, but it might be helpful to do something similar with the writing assignments.
