I like the idea of keeping track of your interactions with each student so a particular student doesn't take up too much of your time. I have had comments on evaluations about this in the past. While I saw it as giving time to that student when they needed it, sometimes it was perceived as favoritism.

One new thought for me was giving examples of assignments or projects at the beginning of the course. I do give them a PreTest as an example already, but it might be helpful to do something similar with the writing assignments.

Agreed, but I was surprised by the study's results that 85% of success in the classroom is based on soft skills. I knew they were important, but I was thinking even importance (50/50) with technical skills - especially in the medical field.

Consistency & transparency are key to building a culture of compliance. If people don't understand why they need to do something, then they're not likely to comply.
