Teaching in the lab environment provides another type of learning (kinesthetic) for adult students to enhance and reinforce learning.

Competency-based learning is a way to measure a student's learning and progress throughout the course.

As someone that is new to teaching in the university setting, it will be important to demonstrate confidence in my knowledge and abilities due to my experience. I also will need to accept that mistakes will happen, but that I need to use those mistakes and learn from them in order to become a better instructor.

Angry or disruptive students present a particular challenge. If taking the time to listen and help diffuse the situation doesn't help, then it is important to get another faculty member or the director involved. If the behavior continues, then steps will need to be taken to dismiss the student from your course.

I liked all the tips; however, the one I liked the most was the one regarding the talkative students and giving them cards to help them refocus and participate with their comments that are more relevant.

Reviewing the syllabus on the first class to set the stage for the expectations and how each student can succeed in the class along  with the due dates for assignments and penalties for late assignments.

A learning difference is the processing of information and has nothing to do with intelligence. Therefore, as educators, we cannot assume that someone with a learning difference cannot do the work. We just may need to provide other opportunities and ways for them to process the information for a given subject.

Language and literacy are independent of each other. So, while a student can be completely literate in their native language, they could have challenges with either reading and writing or communicating in the second language. This is especially true for students whose native language uses letters different than those used in English

One key thing that we as instructors need to pay attention to is those students where English is not their native language. We have to be mindful to not use slang terms when teaching and to use a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. Lastly, we need to be mindful of creating a safe space for all to learn regardless of culture, race or religion.

I've learned that diversity goes beyond race/ ethnicity and religion but that we must also consider and include gender and be aware of gender bias. When instructing students, it is important that we are not only aware of our own bias but to ensure that we use inclusive language and vary instruction to include all types of learners.
