I plan to establish the expectation of contact from the beginning of the course. I won't tacitly dare them to prove me wrong, but I will find a way to say that if they don't know how to get in touch with me and haven't talked with me via email or LMS in weeks, chances are they will not be successful in the course. We need to encourage contact -- not in a parental manner -- but in a manner that allows students to see us as vital resources for reaching their goals. That requires connecting their goals to the content.

I learned about the 7 principles of learning and how to apply them as an instructor and student.

I will take the seven principles and apply them to my course

I really value providing prompt feedback to my students that is meaningful and delivered in a positive tone to allow my students to feel as though they are listened to and that their success is important to me also.

Student and instructor engagement is vital for a student success.

I learned the importance of creating tips for time management for students, encouraging them to give themselves at least 2-3 hours a week on assignments. Also to setup a calendar with due dates on assignments so they do not procrastinate, constant communication is key, also using netiquette tan acceptable way of communicating online.

I learned that online courses are a way for students to work at their own pace, meeting each deadline set by their instructor.

I learned the importance of helping students set realistic life goals and connect course content to those goals so they see its value beyond the classroom. I also found that netiquette and time management skills are critical for online success, since respectful communication and effective planning directly affect student motivation and performance. I plan to apply this by modeling professional communication, providing clear time management tips, and showing students how their coursework links to their long-term personal and career goals.

It's extremely important to set clear expectations, timelines, due dates and give multiple reminders along the way, while recognizing this is still adult education.

Hello!

As instructors we need to take into consideration that allowing students to work at their own pace can be a dual edge sword, because it allows students to be able to work at their own pace and it can be an opportunity for some students and a challenge for others.

How to help my students be more successful in online learning.

I plan to include a statement about the average length of time a student has experienced when completing an assignment. I am also going to encourage students that as they work their calendars, they should also include scheduling breaks.

It is crucial to have communicate with online learners on a daily basis to promote learning.  An active instructor shows caring and motivation to students.

Helping students stay on task is collaborative work.

It is important to keep up regular communication with online learners.

I learned a new term " Netiquette" which means an acceptable way of communicating via the internet.

This is very good information, Ive learn student must take responsibility for shaping the learning enviroment.

Consistent engagement with online learners can help improve learning outcomes

As far as prompt feedback goes, I try to post grades and comments as soon as possible, preferably the day after an assignment is due.  Recently I have started using video feedback to give brief but direct comments. My students have responded favorably to this approach (as opposed to my usual detailed but easily ignored text comments).

Successful online learning hinges on proactive engagement and effective strategies. Key techniques include establishing a dedicated workspace, managing time diligently, actively participating in discussions, and seeking help when needed. Developing strong time management skills, staying organized, and maintaining a positive mindset are also crucial for navigating the online learning environment.
