I learned this module the difference between synchronous and non synchronous discussions. Synchronous discussions are not recommended with critical courses it's best to use synchronous discussions when dealing with one student at a time. Not every student has one style of learning.
Participation and engagement are most important
Small groups work best for synchronous learning, by using video clips.
I was pleasantly surprised that small talk was encouraged in synchronous communication but I understand that it can put the students at ease and help build rapport.
The meaning of synchronous and asynchronous learning were discussed, also the strategies for effective learning using these methods. How to provide feedbak was also discussed and good online communication strategies were also diiscussed.
Positive feedback is important!! It helps to encourage students to continue to participate
I now see what synchronous and asynchronous learning is, the differences and how it can be different in different learners. I like the asynchronous learning method as it helps all the students learn easier even the introverted personality learner.
I try to first post as early as possible. When students post on Monday I try to reply back on Tuesday. So that it gives the student plenty of time (i.e., Tuesday-Sunday) to respond to my posts. If I am under the weather and post later in the week (i.e., Wednesday-Friday) I tend to get less interaction with students.
I learned I need to give feedback via emails. That is a struggle so I will work on this.
Feedback is important in order to encourage participation, confidence, and motivation. Also providing constructive criticism when needed. I will apply this to my students by providing more feedback whether constructive or not.
I didn't realize how many different styles of students we have until going through this section.
Some suggestions for initiating and managing synchronous discussions.
Engaging students and ensuring participation in discussion is important, however feedback and interaction from the instructor is equally important in a fully online or hybrid class.
Learning how to interact asynchronous and synchronously with the students has been helpful and insightful
I learned everyone has a different learning style. I learned timely feedback and interaction are important.
I learned how asynchronous and synchronous can be utilize in elearning environments.
using polls, and then have participants to explain their rationales.
There are 6 different learners and we need to be able to identify with proper netiquette. We also learned the difference between asynchronous and synchronous learning and how important each are and how very different the learning strategies are.
This is a good module. Gives suggestions of the different styles of learning
being familair with synchronous and asynchronous features is a must. That way we can apply the right strategies. Plus, feedback is relevant since students are not in a face to face environment.
Planning how to address student so we build their confidence is also another must-do thing.
