I learned that it is better to have online discussions asynchronous as opposed to synchronous, because the different personalities that could inhibit participation from other students.

Reviewing this modules re-inforces the difference between synchronous and asynchronous courses.  Challenges with asynchronous include different time zones and different learning styles as well as participation.

This module also reinforces the importance of giving feedback that is motivational and encourages confidence.

It is important to provide video or live camera when conducting a class

It is important not to discuss core information in a large group setting, but rather one on one where possible, and small group settings when not. Students should also be split into small groups of 5-6 where possible to encourage more introverted students to participate in discussions.

The strategy should be carefully planned out and catch the students attention for online learning. This can possibly be done, by getting to know your students and how they learn.

I learned that in asynchronous discussions, responses are often written and not verbal, so students are more likely to be more detailed in completing their responses. Also, an asynchronous forum is preferred when imparting critical information. Several advantages of asynchronous discussions are promotes reflection, critical thinking, and more student involvement, including introverted students and international students. I intend to include asynchronous discussion boards, involving small groups of students, in my classroom instruction.

Feedback should be regularly provided, tailored to each student's work, and aim to guide and motivate them. This compensates for the lack of in-person interactions

The difference between asynchronous and synchronous learning, building personable relationships to create a safe environment for students to lean and how to provide feedback and support. I am glad it touched on the importance of making sure the post are clear because without hearing tone of voice and facial expression it can be hard to tell if a joke is a joke or not.

Incentives for participation can also include Gaming. For Competitive learners, this has strong appeal, so you need to also make sure that everyone is on an equal playing field in terms of having the ability to earn a virtual reward, e.g. a simple virtual 'button' or other prize icon reflecting the specific topic they are learning.  I try to avoid leaderboards, unless I am teaching people to be more competitive. Then, having one makes sense. Otherwise, everyone should be able to make it to the top and have the opportunity to become the winner, at their own pace (or whatever level or by timing that is desired for the group).

Effective learning requires engaging students, particularly in an online environment. It entails establishing a lively, participatory atmosphere that sustains students' attention and promotes active engagement. Using a variety of teaching techniques, adding interactive components like discussions and quizzes, giving examples and applications from real-world situations, and providing tailored feedback are all important tactics. Furthermore, engagement can be greatly increased by being aware of students' needs and making adjustments to suit their learning preferences. The intention is to design an educational process that is dynamic, inspiring, and informative.

Engaging learners through online discussions is a key technique in online teaching. By encouraging students to actively participate in discussion posts, instructors foster collaboration and deeper understanding. This technique promotes critical thinking, allows for diverse perspectives, and creates a sense of community in the virtual learning environment. Effective online teaching involves facilitating meaningful discussions that enhance the overall learning experience for students.

Giving proper feedback is important for both learning styles to promote student participation.

When providing feedback to students,  should be delivered in way to encourage participation and motivation

The traditional classroom setting, learners benefit from immediate verbal feedback as well as non-verbal feedback which is important and comes in the form of body language such as smiles, nods, confused looks, frowns, etc. The absence of these types of feedback in an e-learning environment makes feedback particularly crucial in this setting. Which feedback in the e-learning environment is important to obtain this feedback can help you gage how the students are doing in class

I think the content that I heard was very significant, Like the Learning Styles!

That is important because you have several types of learnings, what stood out for me was the Asynchronous & Synchronous discussion sessions, will help students to learn with a group and one on ones is very important to connect the dots.

Asynchronous discussions are valuable and have their rightful place in the teaching environment, IF utilized appropriately with due regard to drifting away from the subject matter and into distracting commentary.

Learned the different ways to teach a class and provide discussions.

I learned information to guide students for successful outcomes

We've only used synchronous learning for live lectures and one on one interactions (like tutoring), because they're too many scheduling conflicts. I didn't think about how certain students would also dominate the situation if you tried to do this during a discussion with the entire class.

Knowing students' laerning styles can go a long way towards helping them be successful in the classroom be it online or in person.
