We need to know that we are on a good team. Telling students about our teaching credentials can help give the students confidene in their "coach". Having the students produce short biographies will really help me get to know them. The students dread this a bit, but I refer back to it often in the beginning of the year as I try to make connections with my students. I suggest asking secondary school students to tell me 2 or 3 possible jobs/careers they would like. I liked the idea for students to add teacher expectations, to make them think and empower them a bit.

Try to be as transparent as possible with your students. Let them feel that you care about them and how they learn.

Within the Projectig Your Presence module, I found it meaningful that we as instructors will utilize the same strategies online as we would within the classroom.

This section has emphasized the importance of presenting yourself as a relatable and authoritative educator online.

Connecting with student is a virtual environment can be challenging. Spening time to build relationships and to check on learning is needed. Making sure one has the proper support, especially from a technical perspecitve, is important.

I learned that providing a bio of your credentials, experience, and accomplishments can help students engage with you. You can also help students to engage with each other through discusssion boards of the course content, and discussion forums of nonn-content-related topics.  This helps learners in similar locales connect with each other.  You can also answer questions about the course, being careful not to use the enquirer's name without their permission.  I will be sure my online courses contain rich discussion and conversation forums, a listing of office hours where I can be available to answer their questions in real time, and group activities that allow students to interact wiith and learn from each other.

An educator shoud be fully commited to their students.

To be fully effective, an educator must be fully committed to his/her students.  The student can sense trust.

This has helped to enforce that tools used within the classroom can be transferred to on-line training.  During the first two weeks of shool I usual go through my expectations for the classroom and give them a bio of myself.  I have never thought about getting students to do one at the beginning of the year.  Usining this tool for e-learning is a great idea.

To be always visible and make sure to communicate with students on a timely manner .

Instructors that take the time to learn more about their students are signalling care and online class environment.

Introduction of bios for students are effective to introduce them to the learning environment.

I have found that its best practice to be engaged in the discussions and to respond to replies within 24 hours.  Being involved in the discussions shows instructor presence.

It is important to establish a professional leader approach and, at the same time, be able to relate at the individual inorder to cultivate an educational experience.

I learned how biographies are a good way to start to get to know students and they can get to know you but I would also like to know other ice breaker type activities to use in a remote learning situation.

This module was about creating your presence online. This can be accomplished by posting a short text bio or video of yourself to provide the students with information about yourself.  It is also encouraged to have the students post about themselves on day one.

A good way to start the e-learning way is to ask students to share a small biography on them with their interests, what they like to be called and some important or fun information about them.

I liked the sharing of biography with students. I do not think it is a good idea for high school students to face time with school online platform. I think it opens up legal issues.

It is important to get to know your students when distance learning just as it is when you are in person. If required to start the year with online platform, I will start by putting together my own biography as an example. Then, I will have students provide identifying information about themselves in order for me to get to know them. With new students at the beginning of the year it will help build a friendly, trusting learning environment. It will also help to identify any students with special needs.

Students trust educators more when they know about the educator.  This also works in the other direction of the teacher taking time to get to know their students just as if they were in a classroom face to face.  I like the student/teacher bios in the first week of class to get to know each other.  I plan on using this if we have to teach online.
