Teaching to the Learning Styles of Allied Health Students --> Operationalizing Educational Theory in Your Classes

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

Operationalizing educational theory is the process of translating abstract learning principles into concrete, measurable teaching practices, strategies, and assessments that can be implemented and evaluated in real-world educational settings.

In reflecting on the various learning styles, I can visualize the students in my classroom who display these learning styles. The suggestions provided are very helpful in providing various activities and mentoring tips for each student. I am thinking of my students who are loners. These students will not make appointments with me. Most often, these are the students who sit at the back of the room. They don't talk. They don't like to be called on. One student said that it takes her a while to come up with an answer because she is analyzing the various types of situations that could be occurring. She struggles with test taking because she reads into the questions, thinking about extraneous variables that may influence her answer.

I am also thinking about my "Integer" student, who asks "why" many times. I love the feedback. It really gets the class to think about it, as I place this back on the class to answer.

I have so many "Touchy" students. I find that these are the students that are the easiest to reach. Maybe it is because I am a "Touchy", as well. I love to come up with interactive activities for them to do. I was the student who hated to be stuck in a classroom for hours, just sitting.

I love the ideas for reaching each type of student. The "secret word" is something I plan to integrate in my classroom as well as the activity with the yarn.

Get to know your students. Students learn differently. Be creative and have a variety of lesson plans or options to meet student learning needs. Offer choices.

Get to know how your students learn, be creative, and lastly have respect for each

Great reminders that you can flex your content to fix all learning styles. Adapting your classroom is what can set a teacher apart and make all the students feel seen.

It is important to identify the different learning styles of students in your class so that you can present different activities to engage their learning process.

The examples of how to teach different individuals according to their learning abilities were very helpful.

This is has been a great way to learn some techniques to make sure I am reaching all learning styles.  I have enjoyed the story as well.

This is a good review of the different learning styles and how to meet the various needs of our students.

In this module, I learned about various tools to use in teaching, including the eight ways of knowing.  Being aware of how everyone understands and being able to teach these students effectively. As educators, we need to establish our teaching skills that “NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL”.  Hiding treasure in reading, using props, and comparing and contrasting are valuable tools that I will utilize in the classroom and everyday life.

In the area in which I work, teaching and learning are applied with different learning methods, but all of them are aimed at ensuring that the student can understand what has been learned. It is not just about memorizing but also about having a critical and practical action to be able to apply what has been learned.

When teaching, incorporate examples utilizing the four of the eight methods of learning that was discussed in this content, so you are targeting each student based on their learning style as it fit within the four methods of learning, this will aid them in understanding the concept or instruction efficiently.

Utilize the different learning styles to teach and keep students engaged.

Use different methods of teaching to ensure all students are grasping the information.

Not all students have the same learning style. Your teaching style needs to meet all the different styles of learning

While studying "Operationalizing Educational Theory in Your Class" course, I learned that while I may know a subject well, I need to know how my students earn and apply it throughout my lecture. For instance, Kinesthetic in which an individual learns through touching or various actions. As an instructor in mathematics, I utilize this method through class participation where an individual would come up to the board and solve an equation. At the same time, have students in groups of two and work on a specific equation. Once completed, have students check with others to see if they arrived at the same answer. If not, they must figure out which group calculations were incorrect, make the corrections accordingly, and recheck with others.

I have learnt that there are 8 frames of mind of learners. In this module the first 4 frames of mind discussed excellently with example. This will be very much helpful to implement this method on my students.

Learning for students should be engaging and it should engage all students on their learning style.

I like the ideas for the loner.
