There are two distinct groups of adult learners: the “older generation” and the “new generation.” They have their styles for studying and applying their knowledge and experience. Self-directed learning is essential for self-motivated adult learners. My experience with the new generation: they want you to give them the answers and not be receptive to reading the material.  They expect the instructor to teach the test and rely on material found through AI searches. In the medical field, this is a concerning issue.

This course introduced a valuable tool that will assist me with students when they are assigned to me as their homeroom advisor. I will use these steps when advising students.

1. Exploration of life goals.

2. Exploration of vocational goals.

3. Program choice.

4. Course choice.

5. Scheduling classes

Educators should focus on teaching content in a variety of delivery ways and educate students of all ages. We shouldn’t have to look at them as customers paying for services.. I was put in this position as a nursing instructor. The student hadn’t paid for their course completely.  They wanted me not to give grades out till they received payment from the student.  Not a position to be in.

We all learn differently, and we all face unique challenges and factors. Everyone has their reasons for continuing their education path.  Adults have different factors that affect their learning compared to high school students. Each person has their commitments, primarily financial, that interfere with their learning.

A lot of great material that I hadn’t thought of. Interestingly, Bias is something that children and students observe quickly.  When this happens, it is challenging to change, as it can impact their academic performance, which has lasting effects.

I hadn’t used or seen Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).  When we had tragic events I never saw or heard of this. Do they use this in school settings?

The Sawyer Effect - pay being rewarding, but over time not a motivator, and losing interest. Thinking out of the box to engage students...

Incorporating and focusing on implementing strategies for individuals with IDD and 504 accommodations in daily lesson plans.

Fostering Placement Skills was an activity that I hadn't encountered in the classroom.  This activity will be set up and initiated in the plan to enhance the successful development of both soft and hard skills in career-ready students, preparing them for whatever road they encounter after school.

This section reminded me of many skills that we often take for granted.  It was a great refresher. I haven’t heard of Cornell-style notes before.  I will incorporate this in the preparation for a job interview.
