ChatGPT and Its Educational Uses --> Introduction to ChatGPT

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

I plan to use AI to create new content based on existing technologies and information. Through this course, I have learned that even when AI cannot fully assist with a specific topic, it is still a valuable tool for organizing ideas, identifying patterns, and bringing clarity to complex or messy information.

Chat is a great tool for generating ideas and understanding complicated topics. However, it lacks emotion and is based off of data.

ChatGPT can be a valuable tool for brainstorming ideas, creating lesson plans, writing assessments, improving communications and saving time on routine tasks.  While this is a great tool to have, reviewing the content it provides is also a necessary step.

I have learned that Chat GPT needs fact checking.  It can be used to help generate idea, brainstorming and finding relevant information.  You can use it to help write lesson plans or find test questions.

As I have mentioned before, Maryann Wolf's work is an integral part of helping student writers appreciate how literacy and  neurology work together. As I read through this module, I stopped and noted the "neural network architecture" of ChatGPT and at the central understanding of how language works. This aspect validated my decision to include "Proust and the Squid" as required reading for my class.

GPT has been a tool educators can use to their advantage.  We use it on a daily bases and now it's time to use it to help enhance your students learning.

I Think ChatGPT can help with the design of educational tools that help my students to practice and review the topics we work on classes.

I have used ChatGPT to help with lesson creation, lab ideas, simple math practice problems, or creating fictional scenarios for students to read through and solve.  Most of these need to edited to make them useable by students.

I learned that ChatGPT is designed to understand and generate human-like text, helping users with range of tasks such as answering questions, explaining concepts, brainstorming ideas, writing content, solving problems, and learning new skills.

ChatGPT can personalize learning by adjusting explanations, examples, difficulty levels, and pacing to better match each student’s needs and preferred way of learning.

Chat GPT works on a neural network to acquire and process information based on statistical evaluation of the data that has been inputted. Chat GPT can help individualize learning for students based on their learning style and pace. It can provide answers to questions on a wide variety of topics, and pose questions to encourage critical thinking. It can also help instructor with providing regular substantive feedback.

That it is very important to scrutinize the answers you may get from AI

I’ve learned that the way a prompt is written can change the response. Even with the same intention, different wording can lead to different answers. This happens because ChatGPT does not have emotions or true understanding.

Having worked with AI, I'm aware of its capabilities and limitations. What this course made me reflect on is not whether ChatGPT can be used in education, but how to redesign assessments and teaching methods so students learn with AI, not just copy from it. The real challenge is pedagogical, not technological.

I learned the good and not so good of generative information.

ChatGPT can be used to look for alternative explanations, better examples, or applications of the knowledge we want to transfer. All these resources can help students understand better.

I am already using ChatGPT to support my teaching. The two big things are preparing the instructions for chatgpt, and then due diligence on reviewing the answers given.
