The do's and don'ts to avoid with students with disabilities.
There are various different mental disorders that require maintaining a calm demeanor, refraining from raising one's voice, and beginning each day with a fresh, focused mindset.
patience and forgiveness is key when interacting with someone is vital to forming a bond with most people, and you have to remember that even when they have something going on that causes you to become frustrated or angry with them.
I enjoyed learning more about psychological disorder, such as Bipolar, OCD, and ODD. There are common mistakes to avoid with the student who is bipolar, has OCD or ODD as well as strategies that will enhance the students' behavior in a positive manner and know that we are not qualified or learning about how to diagnose a psychological disorder.
The disorder of ODD is new to me. I realize that I have probably seen more afflicted with this than I actually knew.
An overview of common psychological disabilities with some possible accommodations was very helpful.
I didn't know ODD was a thing. I like the idea of setting up cues with students. The issue will be getting them to pay attention and pick up on said cues.
I think a teacher should remind his or herself daily so that we don't become frustrated.
there are many types of mental disorders in our classrooms today. If we are trained in some of the symptoms of these disorders, we may be able to recognize and accommodate these students more effectively. I will get to know my students better and be patient with all my students. Every day is a new day.
The importance of focusing on the student and not the diagnosis. A person is more then their disability.
I have learned there are multiple types of disorders and all students need treated fairly and equally.
I have learned that it is more important for the teacher to focus more on the student then the disorder that they have. I also learned that it helps to not single them out or bring more attention to their disorder
How to work with students with mental disorders
This presentation has a lot of data on ODD and I have a background in Psychiatry and and was still enlightened. This was an excellent section of the module
This module helped to unpack the varied list of psychological disabilities and provided typical accommodations and behaviors and actions to avoid while working with these students.
This was a great refresher on the different personalities I deal with on a daily basis in the classroom and what the diagnosis means and how I can accommodate them.
In this section, one thing I learned about was Obsessive-Complusive Disorder. Some of the symptoms of this disorder include recurrent thoughts or images that are not excessive worries. With this information, I will try to better make accommodations for students with this disability.
Students will make mistakes but it is vital to allow them to recovery from mistakes.
I learned that bipolar disorder causes unusual shifts in a person’s mood, energy and ability to function. I learned that a person who has OCD experiences recurrent thoughts, impulses, or images that are not simply excessive worries about real life problems.
