I learned about Aural, Visual and active learning styles. Also, about limiting risks by using a virtual lab.
Safety is still important when doing virtual labs
Active learning is important and allows for better productivity with students. Emersive environments work the best
I learned of the financial benefits, as well as the other benefits such as being easier to see and easier to make up missed labs, by utilizing virtual labs in class.
The content in this module reinforced the idea that active learning is more effective. This is something I, and I believe, most adults have experienced personally. I intend to use the content in this module by promoting an environment that is conducive to active learning.
Studies have found that when less lecturing and more active learning takes place in the classroom, students are more likely to complete the reading outside of class. Students quickly learn that the text information is necessary to complete the laboratory assignment.
Knowing each students different learning style can help you pair up similar styles to make it easier to teach different groups in ways that best accommodate their learning style.
Identifying student learning type early can help with the construction of laboratories and whether they are virtual or in person and what will be done.
Applying lectures with hands on training will help student retain information
Some students learn differently than others, it's good to utilize different methods.
Students learn differently from one another. It is important to touch base with the three methods of learning for each student.
The course teaches how to shift traditional lecture-based learning to hands-on, mastery-focused training. This requires learning how to break down complex shop/lab skills into manageable, demonstrable steps so students can learn at their pace while proving their practice skills.
Teaching in a lab or shop environment requires various strategies, where students are to put their knowledge to practical use. These learning styles would be cooperative learning and active learning.
There are several different learning styles. Even though we are in a lab setting and most often we are using hands on, there is opportunity to try other styles.
Effective lab teaching relies on clear demonstrations, safety procedures, and lots of hands-on practice with teacher guidance. I plan to use step-by-step modeling in my culinary labs and circulate often to give feedback while students are working.
There are a multitude of learning styles. Learning through action is more efficient than lectures.
Each student has different learning styles, it's important to know the learning style of each student so they can learn in a way that fits their learning style.
