Share your knowledge in an organized and motivational manner. Connect with students on a professional level and also expresses your personality.
I really like the idea of not trying to prove you are the smartest person in the room, but proving that you are passionate about the subject. It keeps your students engaged, but helps you lead by an example of being humble and a life long learner.
Know how present yourself, and always keep the class engaged with the lecture. Lead by example and follow the criteria or lesson you are teaching.
I learned that the student is always watching and always lead by example.
Point taken!!! Very insightful for the new instructor transitioning from the field to the classroom.
keeping up with the latest of processes in you're field and also the 5-C's ( Credible, Candid, Compassionate, Committed, Clear) life experience in relation to the work field helps to project an image of understanding to the students for me and seems to work well.
Being prepared, showing my own enthusiasm, professionalism - someone else said it "lead by example"
To be able to teach others I have to be teachable myself. I am the determining factor in the classroom.
Professionalism and the 5- Cs
I believe the biggest take away from this topic as an instructor is to be a students instructor, or a student-first instructor. By this I mean create a friendly learning environment for the student which they feel comfortable in. Instead of 'ruling' the classroom as the 'almighty instructor', facilitate the act of learning; don't simply talk at your students.
Stay humble, lead by example and be encouraging.
My biggest take away from this module to model professional, lead by example, I can be a friend to my adult students but not a pal, maintain boundaries, to name a few.
Be professional with your peers as well as students.
Good information from the module. I think you have to become an "active" participant in wanting to better your delivery in the classroom. The information in the module are tips, and I believe you have to constantly revisit them and develop these skills.
Definitely thinking back on my best professors and mentors I think on how to better teach
Comment on Tania Lynch's post:
Very well said Tania. Planning and organizing plays a pivotal role.
As a classroom manager, it is important to plan ahead. Planning encompasses lesson preparation, organizing the classroom/lab, and supplies; to mention a few. Moreover, it is paramount that the instructor put together relevant lessons.
The biggest take away for me was: the Five C's ( credible, compassionate, committed, candid, and clear), and the three competencies (technical, professional, and personal). And using the experience of my fellow instructors to help me implement these points.
I have learned it will take time and patience to become a quality instructor
I have learned, you are a walking advertisement for your profession. Despite not being intentional about the display. You’re always on display.
Trying to prove how smart you are will boomerang. And It’s beneficial to practice humility but be confident in yourself.
