The music is creating a sense of pace and frenzy. They are moving, talking and interacting, they are listening and viewing. All of the learning methods are being engaged in this exercize.

Yes, Eric, mapping certainly increases the potential of a class acting more as a unit for learning.

Good job!

Good job Joannie!

Students become a cohesive group.

The exercise will allow people to recognize stress whatever their learning style may be.

It works best in smaller groups with defined objectives. Teamwork works but best in groups of 4-6 individuals.

The use of different seating arrangements is strategically a must! Every class may have different seating arrangements, customized to that specific course and information taught.

It incorporates all MIs into one single exercise, not an easy task to accomplish.

To recognize stress the students will need to understand the balance of what is required. By putting on fast and frantic music may help them organize quicker however it does not promote a stress free environment.

This excercise is touching all Gardner's multiple intelligences enabling the instructor to recognize what teaching and assessment methods are best suited for each student. By becoming aware of the characteristics of the learners instructor can personalize the instruction.

This exercise seems to be an effective tool for helping to alleviate stress and anxiety. Once you acknowledge that it's there, it's easier to try to resolve the problem.

The Multiple Intelligences are involved through each of these steps, which should help each student to adapt to the exercise in a way that is easiest for him or her.

Interpersonal: The students would have to work with each other to complete the exercise.
Logical/mathematical: The students would use logic and math to arrange themselves in the proper order.
Spatial/visual: The students would have to visually look for and identify the steps they did not in order to complete the exercise.
Musical: Musical expression would likely be displayed as the students are trying to locate each other, in that the music being played is fun, fast and frantic.
Linguistic/verbal: The students would have to be able to communicate by spoken word in order to complete the exercise.
Intrapersonal: Initially, each student would begin the exercise alone, reflecting on the step they received and the instructions they were given.
Bodily kinesthetic: The students would physically seek out the others to complete the exercise. They might also become physical by dancing to the fun and fast music.
Emotional: Since the lesson is concerning stress management, the students would most likely identify emotions regarding stress.
Naturalist: Again, since the lesson is concerning stress management, students would most likely be discussing ways to manage stress which could include identifying areas of nature as being stress-free.
Existential: The subject of stress could encompass the understanding of one's purpose.

I am a Barber Learning Facilitator.I have been able to utilize the Beta, for practical assignments, the Theta before test and quizes, and the alpha ,during case studies. All have produced positive results. Stress levels have been noticeably reduced.

This is an excellent exercise. I need to develop several as simple and learning centered as the example given.

To Map this....
Intrapersonal--- The individual student must work alone to identify others that will help their cause (which is to win and find 4 others who fit in their sequence).
Interpersonal---Everyone must interact to find out which stress management step each person has and then to negotiate who's team you will be apart of.
Linguistic/verbal---students must communicate effectively in order to be successful.
bodily/kinesthetic---All students must move around in order to identify who is best for their group and also to assemble into the proper order.
Spatial/visual---Students must determine, spatially, what student is the beginning of the list, who is the end...all while determining who the audience is and the relationship their "list" is to the audience.
Logical/Mathematical---Determine the correct order of the numbered steps will utilize the logical thinking.
Emotional---This is a process where the students will have to "choose sides" and form groups on their own. This will tap into emotional learning as well as the "winner" will be rewarded and there is a possibility of success or failure.
Musical---The music in the background will help to put the learner in the desired environment as well as help them to recall the activity or lesson every time they hear music similar to or the same as in the future.

This exercise is a perfect example of the concepts covered in this module. Seeking out and locating other people hones the interpersonal skill set. Performing the steps in the exercise demonstrates logical intelligence and the music helps to set the desired pace. Thinking about the importance on the exercise helps with the debriefing experience.

It doesn't address interpersonal intelligences because they are working independently and not in a group. Logical is addressed with defined rules. Doesn't seem that spatial/visual learners are addressed. This could be changed with the addition of charts or colorful signs. Music is played in the background, however by being of a frantic nature this could disrupt learning. Intrapersonal is addressed by having students work independently.

It sounds like it would be a good exercise to get everyone to know everyone. The stress management aspect would be icing on the cake.

Consider the following exercise: Students are each given one step of a five step stress management process:

1. Recognize stress
2. 10 Deep Breaths
3. Think of the urgency
4. Think of the importance
5. Work on the right thing for right now.

The students are asked to find the other four people who complete their list of five, then arrange themselves in the proper order. The winning team wins a prize. While the exercise is going on, the instructor plays music that is fun, fast and frantic. How would this exercise map to all seven of the Multiple Intelligences?

Interpersonal - the students have to work in groups; visual - the students need to picture how to organize their response to stress; Auditory - the music brings an emotion into the learning process; Kinesthetic - students have to mover around the classroom; Linguistic - students have to communicate with each other to complete the activity; Logical - students to organize the steps

Suzanne,
Great job mapping these concepts. It also helps that the students need to listen to the ideas/opinions of each other; this reaches a variety of intelligence too.
