Making more time for you.

I have used the process of lecture preparation, finding better ways of organization, and able to accomplish my tasks more effectively.

The road to stress free living.

Who doesn't have stress? This course offered to good on how to eliminate certain stressors.

discipline

i like to mixe discipline and leeting this go little bet time to time , but when is time to be serious , it is time to get serious

Stress caused by coworkers

I am given little to no instruciton about how to complete my job from an administrative standpoint. I find it to be very stressfull to be told that I should have been doing something all allong when I have never been instructed by anyone to do so.

New Class Prep

I find it easier to prepair a daily schedule before a new class starts . It saves a huge amount of time throughout the quarter to complete all the other tasks that are required.

Student Participation

I have a difficult time with students who just show up everyday. They do little to no work while they in class and nothing outside the classroom. They have the "C" is passing mentality. I was never that student. At times, it's hard for me relate to these students. I feel I care more for their success than they do.

The road to stress free living

Taking this course has truley opened by eyes in finding ways to deal with the stressors that effect career college instructors daily wheather full-time or part-time.

Fear of looking unproductive

I am a pile person and in most cases I am aware of everything that is in my piles; however, I do have a fear of looling unproductive.

Setting Rules for the class

It si our responsbilty to set our rules on the first day of class, make sure it is written inside the class syllabus and post it on the class wall. Teachers should make their rules known to the student not after 2weeks of class, teachers has to be firm becasue students know how to manipulate their ways .

The worried Instructor

I've been teaching for over 8 months and everday I still get worried. I always, always make sure that I am prepared. From making copy's of my lesson plan, making sure my slides are in order, making sure I have the necessary writing tools. I am so prepared that sometimes I feel over prepared. I still worry that my students will not be able to grasp what I am teaching. I always allow time after class for the students to ask me questions about the lessons for that day.

Behaviors

whether you incounter a student that is quiet, loud, mean or just unhappy the instructor will be able to target those students almost immediately. These students might have issues at home which is why they are acting out. Whatever the case may be it will be worth the instructors while to find out why they behave the way they do so they can respond to their needs accordingly.

The discouraged student.

Students need encouragement. Especially in this day of age. They are having to deal with the constant change around them for example, our economy, unemployment at a high, world wars, religious difference. These things can impact a persons life therefore leaving them feeling scared for their futures. We need to be that positive person in their life which means constant praise. We as instructors can make a difference.

Ones own experience.

I find that when you use your own personal experiences to in getting some key points across it makes the student see you as one of them. I always manage to get my students attention when I tell them stories about myself. Of course I only use this information as it relates to the topic we are discussing.

Preparing for a New Class

When I prepare for a new class, I do my best to read the material, take a look at the power points and take my time on the prep if I have the time to do so, I cannot be unprepared, if I am unprepared then I feel that I will not only let my studnets down but also myself. This way if I am prepared then I know what I am doing and I let my studnets believe I know what I am doing even if I don't, and I never let them know that it is the first time I have ever taught that particular class.

Coping With Stress

I have found that talking with a fellow instructor or friend tends to diffuse many issues thereby alleviating the stress. I would agree, it works.

Causes of Stress

From a health perspective, stress can cause a person to over eat thereby becoming obese or the opposite would be to have an individual resort to smoking to aleviate his/her stress. Either way, a person can develop cancer or heart disease. Not a pretty picture.

Don't Reinvent the Wheel

I agree, if I may be of help to a fellow instructor, I would gladly provide to them my learning plans, sylabbi and lecture notes as some instructors have done for me. Lastly, prior to instructing from a new edition, I automatically request from the vendor any/all teaching materials that may come along with that particular book. Quick, concise and to the point. Isn't life great???

The Obstacle of Control

When I encounter many daily obstacles that are ever present, I must always be aware of the fact that I am ultimately in control of my time and energies. Many people want a piece of my time and I need to prudently pick and choose and prioritize my day(s). It is too easy to get caught up into others needs and wants.

Types of Students and Strategies

I think every class has a center stage student. The strategies listed for this group was very informative. I would have never thought of assigning a student as an observer but, after reading this information I will now.

Expectations vs Requirements

So often with students if the foundation for expectations and requirements aren't discussed on day one, this can cause a problem. I've found that by informing my students on what's expected and required of them with no room for excuses is both benefical to me and to them.
