Avoiding compassion fatigue

It is important to avoid getting emotionally overwhelmed by the challenges and struggles of the students. In these difficult economic times, many of my students come to me for emotional support and it is a challenge to maintain a balance between helping and getting over involved.

Senior students help

In my program, new students are joining the class with every new module, and my "old" students are very helpful in involving new students in " the wheel of learning".

partial class demos

Applying class demostrations allows the student to obtain vivid detail on how the method/procedure should be done. It allows the student to become more motivated and confident when they actually see the instructor's performance.

Compressed assessments!

Our curriculum is compressed to three weeks and therefore our formative assessments are almost daily. This does keep everyone moving forward with absolute knowledge of their standing in the course!

SAYING HELLO FOR THE FIRST TIME.

This module will help me stand tall and me a model for my students. made me understand the steps that i will be needed for my first day of class.

Always be on your toes...Be ready for any situation....

Wow this course is going to help me alot...I kinda know when, where and probley how to start and end a class. With alittle more training and more confedience I think I will be ok. I just need to find the right way to start off a class with.

Call-backs as question starters

I have found that the use of "call-backs" is an excellent way to prompt a question from the students. Then that can be expanded and messaged until the point is clear and understood by all.

All four major styles

It is of great help if all the students know and understand not only their own style of learning but the other three styles also. Because all of the styles are addressed the students must understand that their style is not exclusive and therefore they must be tolerant of presentations that are not in their style.

ppt presentations

A power point presentation can be a form of torture if not used properly. When looking at a new slide and opening it up with a question and why it may be important will bring interest to the topic. By handing out physical components and explaining how they will incorporating this new information out in lab helps dramatically

Being a team Leader!!! Show them your confedence...

If you show them a model they will follow...Be a bigger person and show them who's the boss. I learned alot form this module and hopefully come to use of it. I know that the knowlegde i learned from this will make me stronger and lead me in the path to teach in the right an professinal matter.

being prepared

you must be prepared. it showes how professionals do work

PREPARTION

Being prepared for each subject or in my case each module preparation is a key to conducting a successful training session or course.

Keeping students alert

I have found it helpful to move about quite a bit in the classroom and give short stretch breaks when students are tired.

Explaining your instructional style

I have found it helpful to explain my instructional style in the first class session

Planning

I am open to any planning hints

Better A/V Discipline

The schools I work at have spent the money to install high quality A/V systems, which are great for presenting a variety of multimedia formats such as PowerPoint, DVDs, Audio. The problem is that they have not thought through the use by instructors of the equipment. I'd like to see some professionalism applied to the use of A/V equipment in schools.

Identifing What Works

I think as teachers we need to be creative with how we deliver content. Even students who do not have a learnign disability will repsond to varied instructional techniques and learning supports. I also think this applies to assessments as well. If a student's grade is based soley on one type of assessment, they may score disproportionatley high or low depending on how they take to that type of assessment.

Diversity as an obvious benefit

I feel that all students are diverse, individual. We need to remember to challange our students. If they come to class feeling that they can use crutches than they will. Not all students are motivated to learn. As teachers we have to push them to succeed. After they succeed they then push themselves to succeed again. Many career students have never been very successful in academic settings but that does not mean they can not be!

Repetition

When repeating concepts, we as teachers need to gauge when are students are ready for us to move on. How do you balance those students who are ready to move on and those who have not yet grasped the concept?

what is the time for each question

i think this is depend on the question topic and materials
