I do ask her about once a day if she needs help.
I did what you said and handled the problems when they were presented. When you update the course, I think adding PTSD would be good.
Several terms ago I had a student who was very argumentative, defiant, and often lost his temper outside the classroom. He had been in the Marine Corp and had two tours of duty in Iraq. I thought he may be suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, after reading and studying the material in the course. I now look at the Oppositional Defiant Disorder as a possibly. Are the two related or can PTSD cause ODD?

At the start of the current term in a computer class, I had a student tell me she was Dyslexia. I asked her, “If she could follow simple directions in a textbook,” she answered probably.” I told her, ‘If she had any problems to ask me for help.” We are into the second week of the term. She has asked me questions. I have guided her through the steps where needed. She has turned in work and she seems to be doing OK. I have given her some leeway on her grades. When I lecture, she seems to follow OK.… >>>

In the Advisory Board meetings, employers talk more about the problems with employee attendance, following directions, accountability, goal setting, end-result thinking, and critical thinking more then computer skills or other skills we in the teaching business generally cover. Our textbooks in computer training don't even cover the employers needs above. So I try to stress the importance of following verbal or written directions, proofreading or editing, meeting deadlines, getting the job done, and figuring a problem out.

I go over the following with my students on the first and/or second day. It is one of the pages on the class website and the last page on the syllabus. Classroom Worksite The classroom is setup as a simulated professional worksite. It will help you to acquire the discipline needed for positive career growth. In addition, it provides the technical skill sets and the social or “soft” skills needed in order to be successful in professional occupations. The classroom has been developed from the feedback of International Business College’s Advisory Board Committees and studies conducted by the Pacific Institute,… >>>

This term I set up on Google...a free website for all my classes. It has everything each syllabi has on it that is required by my school with more in-depth explanations. It includes deadlines for assignments, my evaluation methods, attendance rules, and links to the current term's syllabi. An Announcement page, contains new evaluation instructions and pass due notices. It has help set up a more professional environment. Going on-line has been a big boost to the students learning the value of the internet. It has helped me in reducing handouts etc.

After attending Advisor Board meetings for many years, I have developed a teaching style based on employers feedback For instance, grading hard on computer data entry including spelling and numerical entries. A 30-point mistake. The grade remains a seventy. Technical skill error is a 50-point mistake. After the student and I go over the mistake, the grade is changed to an 80.
I go to every graduation and watch the students, families, and friends celebrate the students' success. How do you recharge your batteries?
