With all the planning and preparation I do to ensure that students have the necessary requirements for externship? How do I make them understand the improtance to meeting required deadlines and getting them met?

Lessons online versus printed materials

I have noticed it helps me stay organized to keep everything having to do with my classes, curriculum, etc., online, but I recognize much of the training provided here by MaxKnowledge highlights the use of certain printed materials. If I like to implore a "green" approach to teaching materials (but am still open minded about printed materials) what do you consider to be "essential" printed materials?

Lesson Plans online

Like others of you, I prepare and keep my lesson plans online. Not only do I believe this is a environmentally friendly approach, but my students also seem to appreciate having an official reference. Could someone offer an example (link) of an exemplary online program for comparison?

Wasting Parents money

So, when you come across a student or student(s) who are bored with the entire learning process and have become somewhat notorious around campus for their poor attitude and less than enthusiastic approach to the curriculum, when do you say enough is enough? usually someone else is footing the bill for them to go to school so they do not seem at all concerned about wasting time and money What are some ways to counteract their lackluster attitude so it will not diminish the positive spirit of the other students who are trying to make a difference in their life?

Learning disabilities

I've had students with dyslexia. It's true, they are very helpful in telling you what can help them. With help and personal attention, they seem to perform just as well as my other students.

Language Barrier

I have had a student who does not speak good english. She struggled with tests depsite spending much time reviewing with her. How do these students overcome this barrier?

Hip to that.

Students should not have to spend valuable class time trying to figure out what will be covered in class. Put an outline on the board of the days topics. Letting the students know what to expect can relax them and take away anxiety.

Meeting the class for the first time

I've been teaching for at least 10 years, but I still get the jitters on the first meeting. I know if I feel this way, so will the students I always start by saying 'Welcome" and go from there with the icebreaker: introduction of myself with a little background and then I have my class introduce themselves with a little background. I make the seating chart as they introduce themselves, so at the end, I can call them by name. You are right on with having a list of things to do for that first meeting.

Introduce yourself and explain what you do as an instructor to make their lives a lot easier.

Planning

Have the students plan for a test atleast a week in advance and prepare them for it.

Test strategies

I believe that when giving adult learners a test, it should be question/answer type of test so they can use their own words to answer a question.

lecturing

the cirriculum that I teach by is already provided. Having handouts and training aids really helps to keep students involved in the lesson.

Preparation of student materials

I believe my Montessori training helps to prepare students for daily materials. I always say what we will do today....tomorrow and how it all fits together. It promotes organization in the class. I might say, we are going to lab today, first we will go over the lab, then assign lab functions for students by name or number, then a reminder of lab rules, etc., end result is no confusion and much less random activity.

Bringing in "real life" to lectures

When presenting materials during letures, I try to bring in "real life" experiences to share. The students seem to relate to this and I think it helps them see the relevance of the material being presented.I can see their attention heightened when storytelling begins.

it is very important to control your students interest during the lecture. it helps for students to focus.

Introduction

very first day of the class is very important to set the rules of yours and make sure all the students are on the sama page

Role Model

your every movement in the class is observed by the students. what you said, what you did, how you dressed, start your class on time and dismiss on time take and attandance are only some of our responsibilities we can use as an examles.

The Pygmalion Effect

I believe the quote is "Whether you think you can or can't you're probably right". I tried this with my Olympic soccer team and found the players who didn't believe in them selves were the one who usually did poorly. After the first week of training I asked each one individually how they thought they did. To their supprise I then asked what I could do to help them achieve their goal and improve enough to make the team. Everyday after the regular training session we stayed and worked on what they felt they needed. The skill level went up margionally, the mental aspect went up a huge amount. They just needed to know someone believed in them.

Active Learning is a must for success in the classroom!

As a an instructor in the healthcare field, I really try to promote active learning in the classroom and the lab. Right now, we are studying Anatomy & Physiology, which is the foudnation of their learning. Each student needs to have a strong foundation to build upon. As the instructor, it is my responsibility to teach to all earning styles. This is where active learning as a direct role in the process. Active learning will ensure that I am successful as the instructor as well as my students to be succesful in the program. Through active learning we can use a variety of learning materials, provide self direction and make it enjoyable for the students! Preparation is the key!!
