Body language is important

Delivering my lecture

I like to walk around the class room when I lecture. It keeps me relaxed and it helps me see if everyone is listening. I try to get everyone involved by asking question about the topic of the day.

Clicks and Cohorts

It is usually a challenge the first class day to establish yourself as the "manager" of the course, when their are various student's that have already, set their opinions of either fellow peers, previous intructors and bunch themselves into these cohorts. What are some techniques you have learned to either heal the group(s) without offending anyone or starting a debate, but standing your ground on classroom behavior and respect for others.

Re-stating students questions

I think its a good idea to refrase student questions-this not only can correct grammer if needed, but also lets you know if you actually understand what the student is questioning.

Meeting student for the first day of class

On the first day of class I go over class syllabus, course outline, and we do Ice breakers to introduce instructor and students.

learning styles

Due to the fact that students have many learning styles it is important to incorporate many uses of these in the classroom. Each student should feel as though they are getting the information in a way that they can understand easily.

Meeting the class for the first time.

I teach in the medical field. When I meet my first class, I give them a little information about myself and why I got into this profession. I then ask each one of my new students to explain a little about themselves and why they chose this particular field to go into. It seems to break the ice and gives other students a chance to ask each other questions.

Learning Groups

I like groups becasue they afford the students the ability to learn from each other. Often this is a better interaction than with an instructor.

Learnign needs

I feel that giving extra attentionis not the proper way to go about this. It will often alienate other students and make then foee as if favoritism is abound. What I wouuld normally do is ask the student to meet with me on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to complete an overview of the mateial presented thus far.

Learning Disabilities

IT is amazing to me the breadth of learingin disabilities that are known. It is improtant as educators to facilitate any assistance to the student as we can in order to meet their success.

Open ended questions

In one of my classes for my masters we talked about using open ended questions or lead in questions to ensure that the students are engaged.

Active Learning

Please give examples of ways you have incorporated active learning into your curriculum?

Motivator

The material I teach to students is a small course within a larger class, and so the subject matter I teach is more relevant to students while they are in school, and not necessarily after they become professionals. This has posed a challenge because students don't always see the relevancy of what I am teaching; as adult learners, they tend to be focused on what skills they can learn and how to apply them in a future job. However, I do see that my role as motivator is essential in my situation.

First Day of Class

I teach an electrical design class in which students must be familiar with residential electrical codes in order to be successful in the class. On the first day of class, I give a codes test (not for a grade) which gives me knowledge of the level of each student. This elliminates wasted time by only reviewing what is needed.

Final Exam Review

In one of my classes, I have each student create their own final exam (with answers)derived from the key objectives from each chapter covered. This is a great way for them to reflect on and review what they have learned. I create the final exam using random questions from all the students mock tests.

Positive Reinforcement

If I tell a student his/her answer is incorrect, I usually follow with “…but, I do admire your enthusiasm!”

using a well developed syllabus is very important

A well developed syllabus give a very good opportunity for the students to Know their daily responsibilities about the assignments and their deadlines, grading policy and topics that they need to know for passing the class.

Prfessionalism

Now I learned that How its important to be very professional and have a plane for our professional development For this reason searching online for reviewing professional instructional literature will be one of main plane

A class filled with multiple types of learners...
