Standards

Learning objectives and standards is a task in itself. Bringing someone in a world they have not lived is like learning to walk again. You have to have patience and always reach a hand out for them to hold onto. P O'Dwyer

Lesson Plan

My book must go with my skills. When I am teaching the heart we are learning ekg's and doing them. Making the plan so everything compliments each other is a very useful tool. When you get to many things in the pot it does not taste like soup anymore. Keep it simple not pressure. P O'Dwyer

Lesson Plan

I think all the time of different ways to introduce material. Sometimes in a crossword at the opening of class or a word search. I plan with my syllabus as I have other classes that take place during the semester. Keeping on course and making sure I cover everything for that day is very important to me. I do board work as well as power point and hands on skills. That is all planned in time increments as to make sure all is done at the end of the day. I like to give a heads up on the next days work in case someone wants to play dead. Time is the utmost importance. P O'Dwyer

Lesson plans

I've come to value the importance of utilizing lesson plans especially when I am teaching a relatively new class or when filling in as a sub. My past tendency was to 'wing it' and trust my ad lib skills. But class content changes with time and I have found that preparation i.e lesson plans aids me in presenting course work and also in handling student questions. You can never be over-prepared for class.

leture notes

Should lecture notes be giving to students, if it free up time, to do more hands on? why or why not?

Standards

How do we help students fulfill the standards, when you just can not figure out their learning style?

Lesson Planning

Is it appropriate to include the students in the lesson plan? (as far as types of activities)

Who Is Your Audience

What is the best way to accomodate the many different learning style into a lesson with a larger class?

Evaluating

I found that this section was useful. I think that evaluating has so many different forms that the section was helpful with the different types. We, as instructors, are not only evaluating students, but, of course, are own teaching methods, which is an ongoing process.

Attitude

I will do all this ideas.

Tests

I put into practice all those ideas.

Students behavior

Students in trade schools are not college students who do have all the input to study without excuses.

Tools

What happens if all this looks nice on paper but in the real world is not totally practical? My friend got fired in trying to implement all these goodies.

Technologies

Staying up on the new technologies is important for the visual student. Visual aids of all types are a benefit because if the student visualize a theory sometime you cut the lecture time down to size. Audio student can often grasp the information faster but you risk loosing some student in the explanation.

Standards of Field

It is crucial to know the standards of the field in order to relate valuable and current information for the students. Keeping abreast of current trends shows that you are giving the latest information and how relevant the material to the present moment.

Bonus Question for exams

I am not a fan of the extra credit, nor am I a fan of bonus questions on exams. My department however does a lot of bonus questions all exam but the final. I have continued this as well but I am making mine worth precentage points instead of question vaule point. I would rather just not have them. comments?

Toping-related questions to assess student knowledge

The fisrt thing I do when starting whith a new group of students is to have a relaxed conversation with all of them tring to make it sound and feel as casual as possible but always staing in topic, this is being helping me to identify the base knowledge of my students as well as getting them to relax in such an abstract topic (Linux OS), also they have the opportunity to get to know me better and to take the rest of the class with interest as we go on some relevant examples an something they don't know yet.

Information processing

Considering that most people have different abilities and disabilities, as well as learning styles, I would question the to opening statement about how information is acquired. If this scenario were true, blind or hearing impaired students would not be able to learn.

Lecture note

to be prepared for the lecture, lab some times I use a short note and mentioning my own experiences and some important info using the other resources bringing up funny stories during lecture to kept my student more engage and focused.

Rationale of lessons and structure

I Really like the idea of standardized a lesson plan and putting your own personal experience and expertise into the curriculum...I think students will be more interested to the subject with out being board and restless!!!
