getting others to understand FERPA

As the receptionist, I find it hard sometimes to make sure that callers calling in understand that FERPA prohibits me from giving them information about students...even if it's simply paging them for a phone call. They tend to get so frustrated when you try to route them to Stuent Services for further assistance and act as if it's because I simply don't want to be bothered. That's the furthest thing from the truth, I'm simply following compliance set in place to protect our students.

What else have you done that qualifies?

Well Rounded Admissions Representative

I felt like this course was a huge value to me with maintaining organization and updating of all Notebook information. I also was able to learn additional practices affiliated with Tuition Planning and Enrollment Agreements.

Admission compliance

The course was very interesting, and a pleasure to do.

WOW

I thought I knew everything there was to know about working fairly with individuals with disabilities but I was so wrong!  I found that I was over compensating and much too generous to the disabled students and left my "OK" students to follow the rules.  I am so much more aware of the issues, documented and undocumented that my students deal with on a daily basis and I am more aware of how quickly situations can throw a person into a tailspin.  As a teacher, I must not only be observant of the laws for the documented disabled students but… >>>

A Better Understanding of those w/Disabilities

Having taken this course I now have a much better understanding of instructing those w/disabilities (seen and unseen). Presently, I have a student who uses a motorized w/c - she has CP. One day I was unsure if I would be overstepping my bounds by assisting her w/getting the door for her to leave my class; this was prior to this course. Later, that same day I saw her as she was about to enter the restroom; I asked her if she needed my help getting the door; she said she appreciated it. I spoke w/her afterwards explaining growing up… >>>

Compliance Performance Group

The training really helped me to know better what can and cannot be said to HS students. The rules are VERY different for a private, for-profit...and rest assured the universities ARE listening closely to what we're telling students.

Sharing this information

There will be times when either you or someone else in your organization will provide admissions training for "new hires" share your resource notebook with them before they take this helpful course because it could be awhile before they are required to take the course.

Helpful

Highly effective training.  It helped me being new to the education industry.  I would recommend new hires take during training.  It answers a lot of questions that you have during your learning process.

Course

I really think that this course has helped me overall with the understanding needed for this position. From an outside perspective that has not been involved in this, the course had a lot of detail that explained what is needed. It helped with knowing right and wrong.

Wonderful Learning Experience

This was a great and surprisingly pleasant learning experience.  No matter what someone's experience is, I am confident that this experience would be helpful.  With so many different state regulations, it's a great idea to refresh oneself every so often.

Great Training.

I feel as though this training has given me great insight to the work I will be doing. I never knew there were so many rules and regulations to the Admissions process.  I am glad I now have the tools necessary to succeed within my new career field.

I felt challenged and I liked it.

I do feel this course furthered my education and brought me up to speed on some things I was unaware of. Looking forward to using some of these tools in the classroom.

Compliance Training

This refresher really helped, as I have been in the education sector for quite sometime, and it's a great way to fine tune skills & just serve as a reminder of the must do's in admissions and other departments.

Great information!

Really helps fine tune you skills!  I definitley will reccomend this

course.

Georgia newby

Great course. I recommend it be taken before your first work day.

Helpful

This State of Ohio Board of Career Colleges and Schools training is extremely helpful and vital my success as an Assistant Director of Admissions. I think this is information that will be needed throughout my career and the way in which the information was presented was refreshing.

Good Experience

This is my second time taking the Ohio Traning and I think it is good. Everyone should be up to date on everything that is happening in their line of work. It makes more sense to me now after being in the position for awhile after taking the Ohio Traning the second time.

Extremely important in today's environment

Although having been in the business for quite some time, it's always good to get a refresher with the most up to date policies and procedures.
