Best Practices in Online Learning

To ensure the success of an online learning platform, instructors should provide qaulity engagement with students and offer effective feedback that enhances learning outcomes.

Best that I can do

How do we correctly and instantly assume student learning styles?

The 6 learning styles are avoidant, competitive, dependent, collabrative, participant and indepdent. How do i quickly assume the learning styles of an online student with a cohort of 18?

Challenges

I like the online learning.  I would like students to engage more in discussion verbally.  Student work hard and do the work which is good.  More verbal participation would be good.

Online successes and challenges

With our current state of the World during this unpresidented time of COVID-19 and the Corona virus Pandemic, I have found that online learning and teaching can and will be challenging. Not only are we trying to maintain a since of normalsy, but we also are trying to make this online experience interactive and enjoyable during a very difficult time. I have found that using these resources that I've learned from this course have paid off tremendously. Being motivated and interacting with students via virtual classrooms and video chatting, it has given students a look into our personal space and… >>>

Careful How You Say What You Say

Well I guess it's safe to say we all maybe guilty of misinterpreting what we hear, what we read, what we see. While we cannot control the perceptions of others we can lessens misinterpretations. One way is to anticipate individual differences. Because our experiences are different and our perceptions are different, then our mindset will be different. Expecting and accepting this will definitely lessen misinterpretations.

Hands on learning

I have found in my years as a CTE instructo, students retain more from a lesson that involves hands on learning. The act of touching, doing, and seeing simultaneously keeps students engage; resulting in a higher level of learning.

Great Class Information

This was a easy to follow, helpful class for onlline  education,

I will reflect on what I learned as I work to put together future courses.

Thanks!

El112 Workload Balance

Here is how I plan to use what I have learned in EL112 Workload Balance.  I am currently an online teacher for the first time in my 20 year career, attempting to teach 4th graders remotely.  I am a bit behind the times with technology.  I often find myself starting work as early as 5:30 and staying with it, on and off throughout the day and evening to 10pm.   I have learned that my disorganization is contributing to my long hours.  From the course I will be implementing office hours and a schedule/routinestructure to do various parts of my… >>>

Workload Management Strategies

Due to COVID-19, I felt this course very relevant to enhancing my strengths and improving my weaknesses in being an online instructor. From this course I have learned various workload management strategies in dealing with online classes. For example, plannine is crucial and utilizing the ADDIE model of setting up a course is ideal. I would be Analyzing my past courses, Designing a new course to meet students' needs, Development appropriate assignments to expound content, Implementing the course, and then Evaluating the course at the end and also at the mid point. I will start using the Stop, Start, Continue… >>>

On-Line Learning

Organization and a routine is key.

Simple instructions: re-read your instructions because sometimes it sound differnt in your head and you know what you want to happen, but it may not appear that way.

Keep the students engaged daily-don't dump on them but make them think about discussion questions and respond to other responses.  Keep them involved with not only their own work, but other's work as well.

A challenge is keeping them engaged and completing the work.  I would say that it is easier for the students to hear instructions, but this last year proved me wrong with that. … >>>

My takeaways...

I am not teaching an online class, nor do I anticipate teaching one in the near future.  I teach high school geometry and like many other teachers, have been thrown into the world of Remote Learning due to COVID-19.  My job and expectations for it changed overnight.  I did get some good advice and tips while taking this class.  One of the big take aways is that I need to maintain relationships with my students.  I had the advantage of getting to know my students in person before the pandemic swept the world.  It is now, more than ever important… >>>

To learn others

I liked this module because it expressed different ways to discover types of learners when teaching in the online classroom.  It is difficult to understand the tone of students when the presence is absent.

how to incorporate online learning and adjusting.

it is important to be mentally and physically prepared when learning a new program in order for you to adjust to "the new normal".

Patience is always the virtue. best plan is to be ready and to learn as you go along. After we practice show what you know at the end of the class,

i always reminded my students practice practice.

Success

Being prepared is the route to success. Being proactive and committing a half to a whole hour to preparing classroom subject, assigning homework and ideas for class participation.
