I must be aware of more things than just my lesson plan

I will have to takes notes on everything from student learning styles, to how they interact with me and each other, and make sure I am adjusting my knowledge and teaching style effectively to let them get the most out of my classes.

ED 125 Effective and Efficient Teaching

This training module helped me brosden my tools for presenting class material to the students.  The training module also assisted in shariing several methods of involving the class in lecture and lab environments.  Finally, the modules gave numeraous testing techniques for effectively testing various types of topic material

ED101 Course

I found this to be very good.

My experience

I tend to lose focus during lectures- I find the hands on approach much more involving

Greeting

I always greet my students with Good Morning when they arrive in class. I make it a priority to learn each students name that is in the class as well. And, I learn quite a bit about the students by just listening to what they care about. (For ex. chilldren, spouses, parents, or grandparents)

My plan

I believe the major aspect that I now understand more clearly is compassion. Yes, that might sound odd because it's commonly frowned on in today’s work environment but when dealing with students it greatly increases one’s ability to teach.

Great Refresher!

ED 101 has been a great refresher on the princples of teaching and learning.  There were some really good points that I have not used before, including the use of an iPad with additional info, that will support your presentation.  This will be something I will add into my classes from now on.  I am aware of engaging students and establishing relationships with them, which I will continue to do.  I know this makes a world of difference in the student's learning.

One thing I always try to do is encourage the learner to really learn the information and skills… >>>

Becoming an Effective Teacher

After completing this course.  I was able to realize some of the flaws that most educators forget about because they are too busy trying to get the students out and on their way.

I realized that these tools are very essential for the learning process to be effective,  For some of us who have been teaching for a long time; we get complacent and settled in the way of doing business that the basic mechanics are forgotten.  I intend to incorporate everything that I have learned in this course in my next teaching assignment but most importantly, I will… >>>

ED 101

Excellent and reminder of ways to make myself a better instructor.

Learned from ED 101

The delivery style is just as important as the content to be taught. If the style is ineffective to the students, they will not learn. Being organized will also assist with student learning as they will see professionalism modeled. I plan to work on creating syllabi and lesson plans to make myself more comfortable with the process. I also plan to determine the best way to organize lecture notes so that my lectures are organized and students are engaged in learning.

first day

this exercise will go a long way for me as a first time instructor

Be discerning

Approaching students who do not participate often should be handled with care. If you are not careful it can blow up in your face. It happened to me. The student was offended that I noticed.

My first week as an educator

My first as an educator was eye opening, I have learned you can see the eagerness to learn in someone's yes. You can sense that they are depending on you to delivery your best. The students want to learn and want to be successful. I have learned that I can be there for a student who gives their 100% and I can support someone who is not so inclinded to do their best.  Best practices for me is to be consistant, prepare an action plan. Take time to review my plan and deliver, in the meantime I will watch as… >>>

Delivering Training to diverse students

The training made me more aware of the challenges and ways to be more flexible in presentation of class objectives.  Some groups need more structured curriculum than others. Giving the students the "Why?" helps them to engage in the learning.

Questioning in the Classroom

The course helped me re-think my questioning techniques to include more open ended type questions during class reviews and discussions. I also need to allow more wait times for responses to answers and in redirecting questions to other students

Anxiety in Planning

I have taught all grades from K - 12, to graduate school. I find the latter the most rewarding. I am able to be more myself. Perhaps it is because of the commonality of age in most cases. But more so, we share life experiences.

I am always prepared, sometimes over prepared because I want to be sure the students are getting what is being presented. I usually have content left over which helps with the next session. Sometimes, I feel pressed to get it all in, and have to refrain from trying to squeeze stuff in. What I have… >>>

Test

Change the types of tests that I give my students.

Successes

After moving to online instruction, a few tips that have helped me keep students engaged are; checking every evening and give feedback on grades.  Students don't want to wait 24 to 48 hours to see if they understand the material correctly to move on to the next assignment.  Make sure to switch some of the assignments up. Listening to lecture every week and answering questions can be monotonous and boring. Give praise. Students will continue to work hard and value you as an instructor if you give them positive feedback.

Formative assessment

I'm looking forward to being much more deliberate about designing formative assessments with the goal being to measure success (teacher and student). 'Tests' have developed a bad reputation in part but really they are constructive checks on learning and teaching and can function as encouraging endorsements as well as supportive course correctors. I plan to 'sneak' enjoyable, content and adult appropriate checks into course design as much as possible.
