Today's education is increasingly requiring the use of TMC. I will continue practicing immediate communication via email, LMS inbox, assignment feedback and SIS SMS messaging. Moving forward I will welcome my Students with a meet and greet video conference.
Having proper understanding of utilizing technology is crucial for providing students with the best learning experience.
Using tools to keep students engaged is not often used by schools who truly need it. Also, there are a lot of students who may not have the appropriate access to the internet and this can become frustrating for them when the connection online is bad. It is also important for the Instructor to make efforts to be viewed as a real person by using video announcements.
Communication is everything; and personal connection is most important.
I use a video introduction as standard practice. It may be advantageous to use video for feedback. My concern is that it would take significant time and not be watched by the students.
It is important to stay up to date with technology that can improve learning for students and ensure that students know how to use it when using different technologies.
It is important for students to understand how to use the technology used in the class and have access to IT help if needed.
It is essential to have IT assistance for learners. Especially for post assignments and videos.
Throughout this module, I have deepened my understanding of how intentional communication and the integration of technology can enhance the learning experience. I have learned that a concise and focused dialogue, especially when working with student teachers, is key to building trust and clarity. Sometimes, incorporating visual aids or video conferencing becomes essential to ensure mutual understanding.
I learned that technology trends matter to retention. Technology-Mediated communication - TMC, importance and ability to shape communications without non-verbal cues.
This module helped me understand the importance of online learning/technology. Very different from my personal learning.
Good afternoon!
I knew current students prefer utilizing cell phones and tablets, but I did not know the number was 74% based on a study. From my perspective, the mobile devices should only be used for reading, but I can understand how the ease of use can push students to use them over laptops and desktops. With this information, I do wonder how I can better interact with students in the online classroom. I wonder if creating a poll would be a good idea.
Sometimes is best to post videos to get the personal interaction
Online presence and interaction matters.
Stratagies for effective online communication:
Establish clear communication, Offer diverse communication channels, engage and interact, be present and approachable, be mindful of tone and language.
Communication with online students can be very different since there is no body or facial language given. Many things can be misinterpreted with TMC. This is why it is crucial for instructors to have a social presence.
This module helped me understand the impact of technology mediated communication on relationship building in online learning. I learned that the absence of nonverbal cues can lead to misunderstandings, and that establishing social presence, making interactions feel human, is key to student connection and retention. Going forward, I will be more intentional about how I communicate digitally, especially with students. I will aim to be warm, responsive, and clear, and whenever possible, I will choose communication tools like video or voice that strengthen connection and help students feel seen.
I learned that enhancing the non traditional learning environment with technology can be effective and flexible.
From this module, I have learned how technology can enhance student engagement and improve the learning experience through tools like online discussions, multimedia, and real time-feedback.
