I learned that retention is the responsibility of everyone on campus, and that each department may have a different definition of retention. I appreciated the line "Retention is the by-product of doing right things the right way, of having the right people in the right place at the right time.

Retention is a critical part of the career school model. Everyone should play a roll in keeping students engaged so they do not drop out. The first thing a school should do to help keep attrition at the acceptable level is to ensure the instructors are trained to identify potential issues with students that may cause them to leave.
I learned that students often choose to leave school when they feel unheard, unsupported, overcharged, and undersupported. A big part of retention is paying attention to student needs and making sure they are getting met.
I have learned that it's not about making a fun environment for the students, but about making sure they have the necessary tools and resources for success.
What I learned is everyone plays a part in student retention and setting the expectations for the students. We as a staff also have to set the expectation to playing a part in their success because we fail if one person doesn't do their part to help the students.
In starting this module, it made me feel proud of the work we have done in our department to show students that we care, and to follow up with them. I am aware of the pressures felt by our faculty in this area.
Retention is not the responsibility of one person or one department, it is a group effort. Building relationships with students and creating a great campus environment are important factors in relation to retention.
In addition to providing student services, it is necessary to establish a group prevention plan for student abandonment.

One key takeaway from this lesson is that retention is a collaborative effort. Not one single department is responsible for retaining students - It is up to the entire organization to promote a culture that emphasizes student success.

I learned that retention is a campus effort and there is not one way to go about solving the problem. I look forward to trying some of the suggested tracking methods on my campus and paying more attention to the students expectations when they start.

Retention of students is possible .When we build a rapport with the students , they are more likely to open up about an issues they may effect students retention.
To improve retention, it takes a team effort to focus on awareness which means reviewing surveys and providing feedback to students based on their comments. Directors, faculty, and staff should be open and receptive to learning when assisting students. Institutions can show they care by ensuring resources and staff are readily available. It's crucial to analyze why students withdraw and create resources to support those with similar issues in the future.
I learned about how retention is very vital and that everyone must be involved for it to be successful. I also learned that it is also my duty to track and see when the student is at risk of withdrawing or dropping out of the program. Lastly, I learned it is very important that we create a relationship with students to promote trust and loyalty between students and the institution.
What I have learned is each department has a role in retention. We have to demonstrate to our students that there is value in what they are doing. We need to be ready to listen to our students and be prepared to help them with their problems. We need to show caring.
