ChatGPT and Its Educational Uses --> Impact on Teaching
Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.
A limited and controlled use of ChatGPT in the classroom setting with a careful use of personal and sensitive use is helpful to make the learning more effective.
Having read again that ChatGPT lacks emotional intelligence, cannot respond to human emotions, and does not understand sarcasm or irony, I have hesitations on how it can be used to help people / students struggling with mental health issues [previous module]. Appreciating that teachers may have a large student population, if a student feels the teacher is too busy and turns to AI for psychological help, that student may not get the right help they need ... with potential bad outcomes. My post incorporates: AI's lack of EI, high teacher-to-student ratios, lack of student's critical thinking abilities, etc.
Comment on Kylie Ackerman's post: I agree with you.
Pros: Make Education easy.
Con: Make use of less critical thingking
using ChatGPT could enhance activities used in the classroom, enhance discussions, and allow students to pull more material to research through to enhance their assignments
In this module, I have learned that ChatGPT enhances education by fostering engagement, critical thinking, and accessible learning resources. I intend to utilize the diverse resources available through ChatGPT to create complex clinical nursing scenarios that enable nursing students to apply critical thinking and clinical reasoning in a classroom setting, thereby preparing them for similar patients in the clinical setting.
I understand that ChatGPT can be used in education to offer support that is personalized support to each student and get ideas for material/activities. I realized I don't need to avoid it entirely and can incorporate it into my day to day life. I will make sure not to overuse it or become overly dependent.
I learned that having constant access to information based on AI is good for students learning, but not necessarily for their critical thinking abilities or possibly accuracy of information learning.
Que es una herramienta valiosa, pero que no reemplaza al maestro. El maestro debe ser un guía para los estudiantes.
I did not learn anything new, but did find reinforcement of the downside to ChatGPT.
help explain. give ideas. review questions, create videos of concepts? Plagarism is a concern.
I learned that ChatGPT can play an important role in education by serving as a virtual tutor, especially in classrooms where teachers may struggle to give individualized attention due to limited resources or large student numbers. It can explain concepts, answer questions, and provide real-time feedback, helping students overcome barriers, build confidence, and improve academic performance. However, successful integration of ChatGPT requires careful planning and monitoring to ensure it complements, rather than replaces, human instruction. At the same time, it is crucial to acknowledge its disadvantages—such as limited contextual understanding, potential inaccuracies, lack of emotional intelligence, risks of plagiarism, and the possibility of weakening human connection—so educators can use it responsibly and effectively.
AI has positive and negative impacts in the classroom and they need to be taken into consideration by educators and the univeristy when developing policies to keep up with AI.
Using Chat GPT has helped save me so much time, I especially love it for finding examples to specific concepts. It is also helpful to change the tone of an email or message to be more professional or reasonable.
I learned that ChatGPT can be a helpful tool for teaching and learning. It can give quick answers, help with ideas, and support lesson planning. I will use it to make my classes more creative and to help students who need extra support.
I've learned that ChatGPT has amazing abilities to create graphics and lesson plans for teachers. It must be used with care with students though. The temptation for young people is very strong to just let ChatGPT do everything for them, and learning will be easily hindered in these cases.
This module offered a well-rounded view of how ChatGPT can be integrated into teaching practices. It highlighted practical uses like creating review materials, generating lesson ideas, and offering support for differentiated learning. At the same time, it emphasized important considerations—such as promoting academic integrity, maintaining student engagement, and avoiding overdependence on AI tools.
These insights encourage a more intentional approach to using AI in the classroom. Rather than relying on it as a shortcut, teachers can treat ChatGPT as a supplement to traditional methods—enhancing instruction, supporting struggling students, and encouraging deeper thinking. With clear guidance and thoughtful planning, educators can harness its benefits while maintaining strong pedagogical standards.
I intend to make use of LLMs to streamline my process—with careful discernment. Having accessible information will be helpful in personalizing my support, but I will not take information at face value.
Avoid including personal information in prompts. AI might use this data in output, risking privacy breaches. Always review output for sensitive data.
