This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Using Technology to Engage and Educate --> Where to Begin

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

My biggest take away from this section is the importance of lifelong learning, and as an instructor the importance of incorporating a variety learning technologies into the classroom.

Much of this does not apply to my situation working in a prison school where internet access is not allowed but it was interesting. One thing I can say for sure, is that we need to be careful when using YouTube because of those pop-up ads.  I've had to scramble to shut it down because there was an inappropriate ad playing.

As professionals we can join organizations in order to network, learn new technologies and different resources available.

In this module, I learned about some new quiz and game generators such as Quiz Star and Wondershare.  Also, learned the information on fair use and copy right laws.

In this module, I learned about some new quiz and game generators such as Quiz Star and Wondershare.  I also learned about an online educator community called Teachertube.com.  I learned about fair use information and laws, which are important to know and understand when seeking content.  I intend to use and try the applications and possibly seek e-book alternatives.

Gaining a better understanding of Fair Use and how it applies to education is very helpful! This way, I can ensure I am falling in line with the set standards.

Discovered some interesting ways to use technology in the classroom. Will incorporate a few of the ideas in my teaching. Long module if you check all of the links but very useful for the current type of learners in college.

I learned about TeacherTube, a great resource for instructors to share teaching videos such as lectures and demonstrations to provide a visual learning experience. This resource offers many different resources for free. I will be using this resource moving forward.

What a wealth of new strategies to use! It was also helpful to learn more about the copyright laws.

I have learned about different ways to incorporate technology in my classroom and how to develop my own skills and learning to create better environment for my students to learn.

I have learned many new concepts and strategies so far. Learning about the various platforms to engage students such as Vimeo and blogs have given me new ideas about instruction modalities

Ways to integrate Virtual Reality into the classroom.  I am excitred to dive into "Second Life"!  This is interactive online learning.  They have virtual Mayo Clinic!  Educational videos I have used are PBS!  Integrate You tube into your class.

I also learned there are performance indicators for teachers.

  1. Facilitate & Inspire Student Learning & Creativity
  2. Design & develop digital age learning experiences
  3. Model digital age work & learning
  4. Promote & model digital citizenship
  5. Engage in Professional Growth & Leadership

This course has opened up the various ways technology can be introduced to a culinary arts program. From simulations and virtual reality to using platforms to market the program by making videos of the courses and dishes prepared, I also like the instant feedback that can be provided through the introduction of technology. The simulations would allow for great insight into the real world of owning and operating a business in the hospitality sector.

I have had questions about fair use and copyright law in the resources I use. This module helped me understand that a bit better. It also offered more resources to explore!

Very informative - lots of choices to incorporate technology into the classroom and this course increased my understanding of many methods while introducing new methods that were previously unfamiliar to me.

In this module I met the International Society for Technology in Education (ITSE) and I think it is a great contribution for those of us who dedicate ourselves to the study of educational technology.

I learned about all the different avenues for technological communication with students from social media to mainstream platforms.

This is an interesting unit in learning about the availability of the technology. The resources identified will definitely help to deliver content to my students. Being of a different generation, although technology has been a huge part just not to the extent of the younger generation, I do understand the importance of utilizing these resources to help not only keep students engaged but to help them get the full benefit of the subject being taught.

I have learned that there are a multitude of tools at my disposal to keep students engage in and out of the classroom. I plan to implement the use of quizstar to create interactive quizzes.
