Being diverse/having diversity helps everyone. Generalizing and putting people of the same race/gender in the same categories not only disregards the individual as a person, it disregards everything about who they are, what they like and how they feel, and what interests they have as a person.
Very good quick lesson. Instant engagement.
Cultural diversity in school means including every student. This means we include and accept all students regardless of: gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, language, and/or abilities.
The benefits of embracing diversity in school include: enhanced learning, increased empathy, improved academic performace, and preparation for a diverse world.
Being aware of our own biases is important. Using varying strategies in the classroom will help include students with diverse learning needs.
As educators, we are around many different people from all race and culture, we have to be unbiased when teaching our students. We have to find different ways to get the information across for everyone to learn and understand.
It's important to understand the student at their world view, otherwise communication cannot happen.
Being mindful of cultural diversity will help create a welcoming academic environment for every student.
Fairly straight forward if you weren't raised as a total jerk. Be kind, be inclusive make the class a safe space
Importance of inclusive language
It is easy to think bias does not impact us in 2025. Gender bias is still wide spread in many professions. As a nurse I am happy to see more males in this profession but they are still very much in the minority.
A significant insight for me was recognizing how our personal viewpoints and unconscious biases can influence our interactions with others. For instance, stereotyping and inflexible gender roles can restrict learners' potential by confining them to societal norms instead of allowing them to develop as unique individuals. As I move forward, I plan to implement this understanding by being more deliberate about inclusive practices in my classroom or workplace. This will involve utilizing differentiated instruction (DI) to accommodate diverse learning needs, fostering open conversations about identity and equity, and establishing a safe environment where students feel acknowledged and appreciated. Additionally, I will reflect on my own biases and strive to ensure that all voices are valued and heard.
I have learned that we all have innate biases, but we can self reflect and not allow ourselves to get in the way of being inclusive with our teaching strategies. I can gain knowledge about students’ interests and learning goals so that the course outcomes will become more effective.
It is my opinion that women being denied education in some cultures is just as bad as stereotyping in this country where it can be inferred that women are good at math for example and are not given the opportunity to prove otherwise. With cultural diversity in mind, we have to be mindful that we are not perpetuating the same injustice on someone but doing it from another angle.
Everyone has a different perspective. That's what helps us to learn and grow.
Getting to know your students helps to identify different learning styles for being an effective teacher in the classroom. Being aware of cultural differences, avoid stereotyping, and gender bias provides a more conducive learning environment.
I have learned to avoid stereotypes in my teaching by making myself aware, through self-reflection, of the most common ones and actively trying to avoid them in my teaching to provide equal opportunity and learning for all students.
Assessment of students background without judgement. Listening to individual students opinions and learning style. Open communication with students will allow teachers to know when and how students can learn and assess students readiness.
I learned that each student is different and to not assume that they understand what you are presenting. Get to know each student individually. Learn their learning techniques both as individuals and in groups. I also learn to listen to each student explain what they have learned, not to judge them on how they explain as long as the general idea or concept is taught.
I find it helpful to review and go over what exclusion may look like and reviewing diversity.
I have learned to be open minded and pay attention to students individual needs and to give respect to every one and see where they are coming from
