A significant insight for me was recognizing how our personal viewpoints and unconscious biases can influence our interactions with others. For instance, stereotyping and inflexible gender roles can restrict learners' potential by confining them to societal norms instead of allowing them to develop as unique individuals. As I move forward, I plan to implement this understanding by being more deliberate about inclusive practices in my classroom or workplace. This will involve utilizing differentiated instruction (DI) to accommodate diverse learning needs, fostering open conversations about identity and equity, and establishing a safe environment where students feel acknowledged and appreciated. Additionally, I will reflect on my own biases and strive to ensure that all voices are valued and heard.
I have learned that we all have innate biases, but we can self reflect and not allow ourselves to get in the way of being inclusive with our teaching strategies. I can gain knowledge about students’ interests and learning goals so that the course outcomes will become more effective.
It is my opinion that women being denied education in some cultures is just as bad as stereotyping in this country where it can be inferred that women are good at math for example and are not given the opportunity to prove otherwise. With cultural diversity in mind, we have to be mindful that we are not perpetuating the same injustice on someone but doing it from another angle.
Everyone has a different perspective. That's what helps us to learn and grow.
Getting to know your students helps to identify different learning styles for being an effective teacher in the classroom. Being aware of cultural differences, avoid stereotyping, and gender bias provides a more conducive learning environment.
I have learned to avoid stereotypes in my teaching by making myself aware, through self-reflection, of the most common ones and actively trying to avoid them in my teaching to provide equal opportunity and learning for all students.
Assessment of students background without judgement. Listening to individual students opinions and learning style. Open communication with students will allow teachers to know when and how students can learn and assess students readiness.
I learned that each student is different and to not assume that they understand what you are presenting. Get to know each student individually. Learn their learning techniques both as individuals and in groups. I also learn to listen to each student explain what they have learned, not to judge them on how they explain as long as the general idea or concept is taught.
I find it helpful to review and go over what exclusion may look like and reviewing diversity.
I have learned to be open minded and pay attention to students individual needs and to give respect to every one and see where they are coming from

Embracing Schemata Ideology in Education
I found the concept of schemata ideology particularly compelling. It makes sense to focus on how prior knowledge influences the acquisition of new information. Ignoring a student's past experiences and education simply because they don't align with the day's objectives can be detrimental, leaving students feeling marginalized.
Such dismissal not only creates a barrier between instructor and student but also adds unnecessary stress, making learning more challenging. Recognizing the value of diverse backgrounds fosters an inclusive environment where students feel seen and heard.
In my own approach, I strive to be mindful of stereotypes and actively engage students in discussions, ensuring that as many perspectives as possible are represented. When students feel included, they are more likely to participate meaningfully, leading to richer and more dynamic learning experiences for everyone.
I have enhanced my learning by remembering everyone is different, with different histories, life lessons, education, and personal experiences. Everything a person brings with them makes them unique and each learn differently. I will strive to incorporate different strategies to involve everyone in the learning experience.
Comment on Donna Hermey's post: I agree and it is our jobs as instructors to create that inclusive enviornment
There is unity in diversity. Starting in the classroom
This is a great reminder to challenge the way I view diversity & my approach to teaching to ensure I reach every student on their own learning level. I know everyone one learns in different manners, including several ways of instruction is so vital. Getting to know my student for who they and their learning style, will help create a teaching environment that can help maximize learning outcomes.
each student is an individual . there own person. learn what you can about each person so you can teach them in a way they can relate and understand
Instructors have to opportunity to make material accessible to students by offering it in a variety of way. They should also challenge gender stereotypes to reach the broadest pool of students.
Be inclusive and do not assume. Good advice in general! This should be applied both formally, in class design, and informally in casual conversation.
I've that diversity is a big part of healthcare and important for us to continue training yearly.
