Every student is different, with different experiences, backgrounds, and learning styles, therefore, each students learns differently and brings to the table a unique perspective. The best thing about this concept is that we can all learn from each other.
Being able to reach individual students instead of the class as a whole by using different teaching techniques and asking the students' preferences will allow the best learning environment for all students to succeed.
Each and every person is of value and has worth.
Learning that student learn in different ways and learning diversity helps promotes equity and inclusion.
Learning styles different for all individuals and not to stereotype.
I have learned to ensure that I cater my teaching style to every student. To also be aware of biases and stereotypes that not only we have but sometimes our students.
Diversity includes many different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Knowing how to use this information and to better understand students to help create an inclusive environment.
Making sure to keep an open mind and allowing open communication with students to allow concepts of diversity and culture to be included in their education.
I learned that stereotyping your students will marginalize them. As a clinical instructor I will always veer away from stereotypes.
I have realized after going over this section that diversity in the academic setting is essential. It ensures that the presence and inclusion of all students. It also enriches the learning experience. Everyone brings a unique perspective shaped by their background, which encourages critical thinking, open dialogue and broader problem-solving approaches. Finally, it is important for equity and inclusion because it gives students fair access to opportunities, resources and support. These qualities are not only vital for academic success but also for effective participation in the workforce and in society as a whole.
Treating students as individuals and respecting their differences is crucial for being an effective educator. It is important to do a self-examination of your own bias so you can learn and grow and be more aware of how you can improve for yourself and your students.
I enjoyed this course and was reminded how to adjust my teaching strategies according to the diversity of my group. I was also reminded of the various learning styles.
Treat people as individuals and not allow a stereotype guide learning.
I learned that stereotyping equals devaluing.
Diversity means recognizing and valuing unique backgrounds which allows us to create an inclusive environment for learning, working, ect. I plan to apply it by ensuring all diverse perspectives are heard and actively encourage varied ideas.
All students are different; different experiences, backgrounds, and learning styles, and they have to be treated as such. I keep a quote by George Evans on my desk that says, "Every student can learn, just not on the same day or in the same way."
See and think of each student individually and not as a whole. Use different ways of teaching/variety of methods so those who learn differently will not be left to their own devices or made to feel dumb because they dont learn the same way others do.
This content has solidified the importance of to think of each student as an individual and not to think of the entire class as a group. Each member of our community is an individual and thinking of all their separate needs will make the material more digestible for everyone in the room. This allows all learners to be included in the class.
I have learned to create a classroom where all students feel valued and encouraged to collaborate and reflect.
This content is extremely valuable in terms of inclusivity of everyone and being sensitive to all learners needs and skill levels. I think too often, in education, those who have different learning styles are marginalized because they can't keep up with the group. Focusing on the individual allows all learners to be included in the learning process.
