If closed caption is considered universal is it really necessary in all instances of media?

How can a functional disability be determined and to what extent would it affect a person?

Why is it that a person who is color blind not considered disabled. Clearly they are affected if they are looking at a color that impairs or inhibits their perception.

We as a school update our academic catalog twice a year. During those updates we are quizzing our faculty and staff to make sure they know and understand the updates. Whether it is just a new academic calendar or if it is a change in the externship requirements. We want our team to know everything about their department changes as possible. All new employees are required to take a catalog quiz using the most recent catalog and pass.

When reading most of the information, it was a bit overwhelming due to the face I have never dealt with someone who is disabled before. But I was reassured I would be just fine when dealing with someone with a disability from this quote,' "there is no technique beyond the attitude." '

" As an Admissions representative, make sure your advice to students with disabilities is based on the evidence before you rather than your assumptions about the student" It is best to not assume, or put limitations, on any students. These limitations and stereotypes are more difficult to overcome than issues their disability poses for them.

"dyslexia – difficulty in reading (could be problems in decoding or comprehension or both) dyscalculia – difficulty with math (could be problems with calculations, or concepts, or both) dysgraphia – difficulty is writing (sometimes it is only a problem in writing by hand; for some students, it includes motor sequencing for typing, as well)" So when is a learning disability or due to past poor education?

Having had service dogs, and breeding them for the "seeing eye dog" program, I liked this small portion of the segment. These dogs help the blind, disabled, and sick in so many ways.

Many people have been the subject of being stereotypes. I believe everyone is the same no matter what walk of life they come from. We may not all do things in the same way, but yet we still manage to get the task done. It's kind of like the old saying... You can't judge the book by its cover...

Very interesting. I knew of Pictograms but had no idea the history of Universal Design. This was very interesting. Now I understand why all television set have access to captioning built in.

This information was great. I now have a more knowledge on they different types of dissablities there are and how we as an higher educational institution handles the difference. I have now printed out all of the information so that I have the opportunity to reflect back at it as often as I need to.

Section 504 has helped many students receive the education they deserve. On a personal note my oldest son has several lables "ADD, ADHD and ODD" K-12 turned out to be a great experience for him as well as college. It is good for educators to know and understand these students are only looking for equality. They want to be able to graduate and obtain a position in their chosen career field. They are normal... They are just their normal. I enjoyed this section very much.

Admissions --greets students, gives tour of school and answers questions regarding admissions criteria and policies of the school regarding attendance, dress code and schedule of classes. ----unable to proctor entrance exams or give "pointers" to potential students about the exam ----unable to answer "financial aid" questions Financial Aid --informs students of financial aid choices, discusses interest rate, default, deferment, forebearance and payment ----unable to take payments for registration fee or tuition Education --discusses Policies and Procedures (attendance, withdrawal, etc.) --evaluates transcripts ----unable to answer "financial aid" questions

The three disclosures I recall are Completion and Graduation Rates, Loan Counseling (Entrance and Exits) and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Information.

Both inperson and on line..it is a requirement.

Our campus insure that all students receive disclosures through providing them with a document that they sign listing eac disclosure.

We have made it increasingly easy for students to access materials and distribution of books in a tamely manner.In fact we have student that have complemented how we effectively we get materials to them.

As an admissions representative, I know it is my role to treat every student with respect and answer every question with the correct answer, if I don't know the anwers I will find someone who does have the correct information. Also, I will bring each student to any section of the school so that they are given the appropriate information or assistance needed.

The accommodation process is a must to properly assign each student, with a disability, the appropriate assistance they need. I hope to learn more in detail about how the procedure is filed and completed.
