A reward after seen an student at graduation

It is very important to be professional and honest when you meet with a potential student for the first time. By doing so, you can experience a great feeling at graduation date when you see that particular student has met his goals.

Proof of High School document

If an student completed his/her High School education out of the USA territory and he/she can not proof a physical document. Can an attestation for Title IV approval and enrollment could be acceptable stating that he/she completed his High School in their own country?

How can/should you approach the academic units on your campus to discuss what you now understand to be inappropriate technical standards? You need to be honest with students about the requirements they will face, but what happens when you know those requirements are open to challenge?

Generally, faculty and staff are given minimal information from the disability service provider about the nature of a student's disability. Letters of accommodation typically verify that the student is disabled and list assigned accommodations. Do you think more information should be shared? Why or why not.

The functional limitations created by disability do not stop being a problem when the student leaves the classroom. They are a constant for the student, and impact on all activities. For instance, how do you suppose the functional limitations created by significant problems with ADHD might impact on a student's employment experience?

Shouldn't schools have a more detailed plan for students with behaviorial limitations, such as asbergers? This topic is rarely touched upon, and I feel that IEPs(individual education plans) that are implemented for these type of learners be carried throughout their college career as well.

Title VI

If your school does not use title VI do any of these rules apply for non title VI schooling. The school I work for does not have this offered to students.

Admission

I was wondering what your biggest challenge has been with being employed in Admissions? I am new to this realm of work, so the biggest hurdle for me is learning about the compliance aspect and what to do and what not to do. I am learning more every day, which is great. It is nice to have a job that keeps me on my toes daily and one that I am constantly learning new information from.

Enrollment

One of our biggest Perks that helps our school with enrolling students is that we have classes in Spanish also.

I instruct massage therapy based classes in a massage therapy program. At times we have blind students in our program. The book that we instruct from provides an audio version along with audio versions of power point slides from lectures. Is this an example of Universal Design?

PTSD and Massage

Our campus is in a city that shares a military post. This leads many retired soldiers into our massage therapy program. In this program meditation, yoga and qigong practices are introduced as avenues to calm or center one’s mind. From my experience in conducting these classes ex-soldiers commonly have a difficult time participating in these class exercises. In what ways would you suggest to accommodate this demographic of students?

I instructed a Swedish massage class. The basic fundamentals of this class is for students to partner up and practice a Swedish massage routine along with massage techniques learned in class. When students partner up and practice the term “trade” is used to define that class activity. One particular trade, a student brought to my attention that her partner was having a seizure. Emergency services was called and the student that had the seizure refused medical help. In the medical field,” to do no harm” is like the number one rule. Is this particular student a liability?
