Streamlining

It was helpful to read about streamlining clerical tasks. I know it's easy to get preoccupied with these and end up being less efficient that I could've been if I were to do them all at one time

Immediacy

It was helpful to read about task prioritization and how being too high-strung or "immediate" can also be a hindrance to quality instruction. Personally, I struggle more w/ that than procrastination.

Reducing stress

Knowing the source of our stress will help us to reduce it as much as possible.Talking about it with some one we trust, doing excersis, and also living in peace with every one around us will help us.Conflict is the maine source of stress in work place.

cheating

if caught cheating students should receive a different test the next day plus minus 5 points. for a second chance

quiz

take quizzes daily this way students will be more interested in the lesson

Quiz

Give student s a pop quiz on syllabus to see if they understand it

Center Stager

I have a student who loves to be the center of attention. She will go as far as to even throw herself on the floor for a laugh. You wouldn't think you would have to deal with these things on the college level, but they are there and do happen. I've found being stern and not putting up with the cry for that kind of attention works.

Expections

I've noticed when I start out strong with students they set their own expectations high for themselves. As the term progresses I notice that I ended up being more and more lienient and they start slacking on themselves. Keep your standards high and they will keeep their own personal standards high.

Strong Personalities

I once had a student that possessed a very strong attitude. I once felt that it would be better if this student did not even come to class. Towards the end of her tenure in my class I realized that she just wanted someone to care about her, someone to just say they were proud of her accomplishments. Once I did that (She did earn them by the way), her attitude and presence in class improved tremendously! As a matter of fact 10 minutes ago I just got the text message that she was hired as a phlebotomist. I'm very proud and feel like I have made a difference in this student's life. Awesome feeling!

Set expectations early.

When I receive a new group of students I always set my expectations from the beginning. I take students into the operating rooms at different hospitals. I emphasize professional behavior at all times. I find that students who know what the expectations are for their own behavior in the O.R. environment helps to establish boundaries in the hopes they will not approach them. It is better to start out strong and ease up when they understand these expectations. If you start out easy and then try to get stronger after something happens it is already too late. Rick

Stress

Every one will feel stress in one point their life. The stress could be work related or from our personal life. It is always good to know the source of our stress then we can mange to deal with it better.

Geting organize

Being organize and having a clean working area making my job less stressful, and I am going to have more time for myself.

Making students comfortable

I like to start my first class with details of what I expect of them. This makes it clear in their minds how to respond to my directions during the course. I also give them an exercise where they work together to find solution to a simple problem but in a group. This enables them to know their classmates better. They then have to present their group findings and work for the presentation as a group as well.

I agree with a post I read

I totaly agrees that students don't always see their instructor as someone from the real work settin (a false perception). A guest speaker can fill that void by answering student questions and sometimes reinstilling the enthusiasm the student had when they first enrolled.

Learning is important

We should apply our oragnization skills as well in the classroom but to our daily life at home.

Task are important

Evaluating task is important to plan what needs to be done first.

New Lessons for First time instructors

I think every one should read this and work on this assessment to be an effective and respected teacher in class.

ED104 Course

I found the course and information to be a great reminder and also provide additional ways to address class room management.

Cheating in class

this is a big issue for the college and the faculty faces the challenges.

How to deal with different types of students?

Nice topic with different approach.
