It was brought to my attention recently that a student was able to gain access to syllabus containing test questions. It was stated that the student used a cell phone to take pictures of the papers. The current technology does change how cheaters act in the classroom and most instructors are not aware of the speed in which cheating can occur.

That first day can definitely be an OMG moment. relax and be honest with your students and yourself. Be prepared.

The methods of cheating have become quite complex and I am very watchful of assignments that are obviously copied from others.

It is a fine line to walk with students that present challenges because they may consume a great deal of time away from the class. I try to address these students after the class is over.

Students seem to relax more when they know what to expect of my course. I try to make each phase of the class clear to students so that they know what Labs are included and what presentations are included.

Everyone employed in the school has to be involved with school discipline from the director to security officers.

As a writing instructor, I try to grade student papers within a week of submission but I am starting to find it hard to satisfy my own expectations. Any pointers?

I enjoy learninig how we can blend our corse with our students.I was in the Dental field for 34 yrs!And now Iam a instructor in a Dental program. I really like giving them knowledge everyday so they can be the best in there field.

What will stress me out on a daily basis is not knowing if and when I will have any prep time to complete the tasks required. Therefore, I have to prepare for either and use my time management skills.

Hello Everyone, As an instructor we have the opportunity to give students a pleasant experience in the course we are teaching or actually ruining their perception of the course. What are some activities that can be done to help with moral in a course?

Hello Everyone, Just as there is bad behavior what about those students who just seem to not react at all. How do we try to reach them and should we involve the class in some type of activity that would help everyone to communicate?

In my past experience I have had students that are difficult and over react to everything in the classroom setting. I can remember when one student would throw things on the floor, pout, and begin to cry when they made a bad grade on a simulation. It seemed when you gave her attention there was more that she would do to create chaos. One day I just ignored what she did so she stormed out of the class. She did this a couple of times and she just stopped doing it after the second time I ignored it. Everytime she would leave I would tell her I will see you tomorrow. I hope things are better for you. What other suggestions would you have had in this situation. Thanks.

Respect is a key factor to dealing with students. If they don't respect you, they will not listen to you no matter how much experience you have in the field.

I've found that most silent students just sit there and quietly fail for some reason or another. Some are forced to be there, and some are just afraid of asking questions. It is up to us to reach out and find out what that student needs in order to make sure they are fullfilled.

I found the deadlines/ late work and assignments section particularly interesting. I came from teaching at the high school level and now I teach at Berks Technical Institute. Although the mindset is very similar for all students I have encountered, I realize how important it is now to replicate work world expectations for the technical school students. In particular, I liked this part, "You have to decide where you are going to draw a "line in the sand" concerning assignment deadlines. In high school students are given two, three, and sometimes four chances to hand in assignments. The rules have changed now- your students are adults and are training to be successful in their chosen career field. Unfortunately, you will still find that many of them really don't believe there has been a rule change." I need to keep this in mind when I am considering allowing a student to hand in late work or a missing assignment past the deadline. It is not fair to others that completed the work, but more importantly, I am not doing them an service by continually allowing late work and missed deadlines.

I had a student who was a retired physician that decided they wanted to get into medical billing and coding. When the person was in the Medical Terminology classes, they became the definite center of attention because they were a physician. How can you make this obviously qualified person a more useful part of the class without bringing them to the forefront and undermining your teaching goals?

As an instructor we are sometimes given information that does not make sense even to us. But we are to give this information to the students and when things go wrong how do we fight to come back or lose our credibility. There is frustration on both sides and through it all you must keep yourself together and get through the course. Working ahead to identify problems is good because it can allow you to correct them and maybe get some other type of material to help your students through this portion of the course. What would be some other suggestions?

I believe students should remember each other names as well.

If I procrastinate and don't use lists then I feel unorganized and off my game. My students have caught on to that in the past. Saying things such as "you don't seem yourself today". I use lists, highlighters, sticky notes, etc... whatever it takes to keep my organized and one step ahead. At work for my office, lectures and even at home for myself and my family.
