Yoga a Solution for Stress

I happen to be fortunate to have my other job being a Yoga Studio. As a long time practioner of all that yoga is, I have a built in method for handling the stress that comes with have two jobs and a life. It is my job to relieve the stress of others and provide tools to deal with life challenges. So, this topic is near and dear to me, but also distant and mostly under control.

Forming teams with students from different culture:

In a cultural diverse community, it is not uncommon to have students from several cultural background, country of origin speaking different languages taking the same class. One of the big challenge is to get to participate in team work in which they have to present their research. What are some methods of motivating students from diverse culture to boldly step forward and present their research?

Stress!!!

I never really thought about the noise level at work as a stressor, but now that I think about it, it makes sense. I love my coffee, but I've cut back drinking it past about 4:00pm so it doesn't interfere with my sleep. Sleep is the closest thing I get to a vacation! As a former CPR instructor, I laughed at the part about the dummies being a distraction--they do look goofy. Usually when I try to meditate, I just end up falling asleep. I'm getting better at taking 10 deep breaths when I start to feel overloaded. Try it, it helps!

Taking care of my kids.

One big source of stress is making sure I'm there for my kids. I helped my son rebuild his condo after the flood in Boulder and I have a 22-year-old daughter who is a cancer survivor so, of course, her health is always on my mind. Nobody likes to commute and I've even toyed with the idea of taking the bus so I can sit back and read to and from work. I try to take a long walk three times a week as I've found it helpful with relieving stress and stiff muscles.

Timesavers!

I'm always trying to improve my grading time so the "50%" idea is truly helpful. While I like multiple choice and T/F quizzes, I rely on essays to judge my student's grasp of the subject we're studying. I never liked them in college, but now I understand why they made us do them! Mobile devices are cropping up in every facet of life; does anyone have a good "one-stop shop" to get up to speed with these gadgets?

Dental office time vs. classroom time

This course has been helpful to me because as a practicing hygienist, my time was largely controlled by the office scheduler. There were times during the day which I used for ongoing tasks, i.e. stocking my supplies and data entry. As an instructor, I'm in control of my schedule and must streamline my activities to use my time to its best. Does anyone have any "tricks of the trade" to share with me?

Dealing with Travel Time Stress

What is the best way to manage time when dealing with a long commute?

silent students

I think that establishing a connection with silent students helps them to open up and start networking. Teachers must find out where that connection may exists and pursue it until connected.

challenging students

If instructors have good listening skills, it's uncommon that they be challenged by a student.

late assignments

Some teachers do not accept late assignments, I think it's unrealistic. Life happens

Difficult students going to wrong person

I have heard of many students going to the program director instead of the instructor to complain about an assignment or issues they are having in the class. Is the a way to prevent this from happening from the start?

Immediacy for instructors

Regarding overcoming the issue of immediacy, I think a lot of instructors feel pressured by their students to get assignments graded and handed back in an immediate fashion, and end up burning themselves out.

Length of the courses

Question: Are these courses too long for our 21st Century short attention-spam generation?

mistakes new instructors make

Revealing to the class by staements or behavior the fact that this is his/her very first teaching experience

Be stress freer

How humans like to be so complicated with little issues and realize life is to short to get so frustrate with thinks the make you go Ummmm is worthy ? I learn to keep calm and connect my brain before I start getting so frustrate with student co workers and the rest of the world with the diversity of cultures and languages you need to learn to listen and think to minimize any streets for you and your listeners and send the correct message without getting outset or be angry with others for little details the Make no sense and the long run is and instructor I try to get 15 minutes of my time along before and after class and evaluated what can be done without getting frustrate or mad and make a change to be better without streets like I say life is to short

Stress

Why people get stress I thing people get streets because they mix privates life with work life between the two can be a demanding stressful way to keep going every day I learn by separating the two can be a great therapy to your mind the separation of the two by be and one place and forget about the Oder one people manage keep the balance and life creating a great environment to their life's, to be and home and deal with home issues and be and work deal with work issues that division helps to minimize stress of the two worlds creating a GOP between the two that GOP is every time you drive home from point A to point B is your privates time to think and relax to get ready for your next destination.

Role Play!

Do you ever allow students to teach lectures/topics in your classes?

CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE

In some schools teachers have very little help from the director of the school with assistance for ill behave students.

Common Ground....

I always like to do a show and tell of not just past student work, so the students can see what to expect in the class, but I bring in work that I have done. I also open it up to critiques and comments on what they like and don't like about it. It gives them the power to express their opinions on real work, and it shows them that I have expertise in the field, and it gets them asking questions about their future careers.

Image plagiarism

How do you check to make sure that students are not copying other people's art work. How are you to know if it was by accident, or that the student actually stole their work?
