Learning Disabilities

In the last few years my student population has contained more and more students with learning disabilities. Your section on the various types of learning disabilities was quite enlightening. It helped me to understand how to be a more effective instructor to those students with learning disabilities.

Questioning is hard work...

I've found creating a list of questions that fit the topic of the day to be helpful. I can use the list to select a question to start a discussion, rather than having to create the question "on the spot". This seems to work well for me and the only requires a small amount of prep time.

how to see a stuggling student make a very important discission

some people take career paths that are not truly correct for them. I try not to discourage them but through conversation tell them this maybe not for them

keep it real

as an instructor the moment i walk in the classroom i start to set the tone for how the class is going to run i don;t beleive in a stress out class i like to have fun and teach at the same time and students pick up on that real fast the classes go very smooth and fast.

Every class is unique

It seems that every class is a little diffrent so often what worked with the previous class will not work with the current class because of diffrent learning styles, attention spans and intrest in the subject in general. How long does it take you to get a feel for wht works and what doesnt for a new class? It usually takes me about a week to get a good read on all of the students.

lead by example

I feel to be a good role model we must all lead by example

Attention Span

After doing this module I was surprised at what the actual adults attention span was!!!!!

Check and Balance

I am a firm believer in giving a pre and post test on the subject matter the very first day of the course. This accomplishes a couple things. One would be where the class is from a knowledgeable standpoint and where you are as an instructor, from a teaching standpoint. This helps give the class a clear objective on what type of material is going to be covered and what is expected from them.

New to this.

I am new to teaching but have been a manager for quite a while. This course will help me smooth out some of my rough edges!

first impression

The first impression will set the pace for the class.

being prepared for class

It is very important to be prepared for every class.

eye opening

This module opened my eyes to new ideas.

when your instructor is handicapped in a motorized chair.

What techniques could be used for the handicapped individual in a chair to be able to get around the room during your presentations?

Classroom Trust

The moment an instructor walk inside the classroom the student knows whether an instructor could command respect or someone they can manipulate in the process. Proper conduct, house rules needs to be set and timely short humour at times helps in order for them to understand that instructors are humane and trust will serve as there foundation.

Attention span

I thought it was very interesting that the average attention span for an adult is only 15-18 minutes.

meeting class for first time

when meeting the class for first time I will try to let the class know that i am here for them for their learning and to teach them how it will be in the world .
