I agree with a lot of the discussions. You have to view students to see if your losing class. so we may have to switch things up.
The younger students have to use internet. I've seen them lose interest if there can't have an answer super fast.
I think positive works better. The students I think will never ask to repeat anything. I try asking questions and always say great job. I think this helps them feel better even when answer isn't correct.

You should be able to see when a student is starting to withdraw. Try a one on one alone to reach out. This helps my alot

trying to keep all the learning styles busy in lab has become a challege. I try and have the student perform the task in front of me to show me the task was done correct. If task cannot be done in front of me I like to see what was wrong. Some get angry some like how I do it.
we as instructors are the front line. We need to keep the students informed and respect there needs. Always keep them interested in all material be taught. Answer questions in a professional manner.

I can't understand why the phones are part of everyday life. Everywhere I go signs tell put phone away or turn off for service. I think it makes us forget how to think. Just pull out the old phone and get an instant answer.
It is important to realize the method of learning of your own generation may be different than the other generations represented in your classroom. we need to adjust to all learners.

My biggest concern is with the critical thinking and decision making abilities that seem to be lacking. They need to be able to think on there own feet .

I am in total agreement. Reading directions is a skill that needs to be taught in every aspect of automotive technology. It seems the Gen Y student wants the easy way out. They need an instant answer. Pull out there phone and google it is easier.
