Outside Assignments

For best Practices when students are on break, at-times I request for students to create a small outside- assignemt at thier discreation and be prepared to discuss upon return to class. The goal is to keep students engaged with the material while over the break. Any thoughts with this matter if this is a best practice?

Teaching Methods

I absolutely love the material covered in this course! Very informative with a variety of great new methods to incorporate into teaching!

ED101

This is a great training for a new instructor.

Flipping a class

I enjoyed this new method of education.  This method seems requires a lot of planning (pre-recorded Lectures) and give students more control of learning.  I also give the instructor greater opportunities for group collaborative learning in the classroom. I think this is great and I am looking forward to using this new method of education.

Active learning

Most of my students work full-time jobs and attend class in the evening after work, therefore, it is difficult for most of them to stay focussed and get the full benefit of the classroom lecture when pure lecture method is utilized.  I find that my students are able to retain lecture materials better when active learning methods are utilized.  If I have materials that can only be delivered through pure lecture, I provide that information during the first quarter of the lecture time and utilize active learning method for the rest of the lecture.  I find out that my students are very receptive and retain more since I started this process.

Learning Styles

I am delighted this course is offered to new instructors, I found it to be very helpful.

Effective and efficient Instructional strategies

This lesson is very well presented the effective initiating begginning and ending the class, questioning and making effective test questions and ub=nderstnding how it affects the students of todays technology oriented Era.

EL101

I had done online teaching during my Master's capstone and I must say I absolutely love it. Going for a CHEP - Online treaching will further strengthen what I did during my practicum. It's like the cart ahead of the horse and yet I know this will solidify my cognitive stock about the subject. Thanks MaxKnowledge!

Preparation for Skills

Great idea to use pre-recorded videos for nursing skills prior to skills lab the next day!

Simulation Class

In simulation, we usually start with a briefing followed by the simulated activities and, finally, end with a debriefing process. This more or less follows the "Tell - Teach - Repeat the lesson" instructional method. What I have learned, so far from this course, is to make our pre- simulation briefings more interesting and attention- cathcing. Perhaps and I envision this, we can create beginning activities that can stimulate their enthusiasm to carry on witht the day's simulation with more gusto.

Adapting learning styles

Is there an optimal and realistic amount of % of each style that should be used in each course?

Are there some subjects where a type of learning is not feasible?

opening question

I have always felt that your opening question is the icebreaker and set the tone of the class.  It also lets them know who you are as a teacher

Order is Important on Day 1!

I have found that when I have forgotten or been a bit flustered and changed the order in which I began class on the first day, it does not run as smoothly as it would have. Also, I don't get as much feedback from students. This is a simple thing, but very key in starting out with your students on a good foot!

First day of class

Syllabis, first day discusion;

What is the best approach on their first day. There will be testing every day and I do not want to scar the class off. What can I do to make this interestng and enjoyable.

Resources

If anyone knows of any resources available dedicated towards improving instructors skills in the classroom I would love to collect as many resources as possible.  Thanks so much!

Flipping The Classroom

Having taken a previous course on Flipping The Classroom, the complementary course pulls together the concept. Ideas for PBL, IBL, and JiTT allow me the flexibility to look at my current courses to determine which method (or combination of methods) works best for each course.

Flipping in accelerated schools

How can I flip the classroom in an accelerated learning system?

student that speaks spanish

how do we insure understanding of content with spanish speaking student with english instuctor

music in the classroom

I find that playing some soft instrumental music, like soft Jazz during lab stimulates a positive learning enviroment.  Have anyone else used music during class?  If so what type of music and during what part of the class, and how did it affect the learning enviroment?
