syllabus vs. course maps

At our school we have course maps instead of syllabus. The problem with this is that course maps are nothing but just the name of the projects. It would be nice to have the project name and maybe a description of the project and / or goals.

Your Instructional style

I like to use student led lectures whenever possible, I think that this gives them a different view of the classroom and helps them learn by preparing info for their lecture...

Learning Disabilities

I have found that dealing with a student who has a learning disability, you must take extra time with them. Depending upon their disability that could be writing every detail of instruction on the board or going over a problem many times.

Past Experience

I like to get students talking about their past experiences as it might relate to their field of study. This will help peak interest and maintain motivation.

Training sequence

Controlling your vocabulary

As a new instructor in training it has been suggested by my training manager, and upon reflection I agree, that I should bring the level of my vocabulary down a notch or two. How would you suggest that I find alternatives for the words and phrases that naturally pop into my mind when describing course material?

Assessments

I think it is wise to use a wide variety of assessment techniques. While there are instances where multiple choice is appropriate, certainly essay questions provide a challenge to students as well. Using these assessments also provides the instructor an opportunity to gather data on student skill level in regards to writing.

Use of Soft Skills

I teach an interpersonal relations course and I find it fascinating when students realize how important these skills are. Employers note that technical skills are not the primary reason for employee terminations, but rather an inability to communicate well with others. I think many of us take these skills for granted and assume our students are well versed. At the end of my course, students tend to comment on how beneficial these skills are to not only their careers, but their personal life as well.
