Screencasting

I am fairly new to teaching online (10 months) and am finding that students greatly benefit from feedback on their work. To avoid Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, I am looking into screencasting options. I need something Mac compatible and have heard good things about Jing although I have access to use Camtasia for free. Any opinions and recommendations would be welcome. Also, if there is a CEE class that covers this, please let me know.

Learning styles

It is very important to look into your students learning style. I want them to succeed and this gives them the best chance.

eye contact

eye contact is important to give students time to answer questions or become involved it the lecture, it also shows that all studens are included. But not to a point were it is the same students you are making eye contact with. eye contact is that personal conection for each student bearing in mind some students do not feel comfortable with this technique, maybe shy, nervous or a cultural influence

Asking a student a question who is not paying attention.

I have often asked students questions who were not paying attention, but I noticed that in this learning module, it discourages that. Are we coddling them too much? Don't want to embaraess them? I find that sometimes it really wakes them up.

Greeting the Class

Something I have never done as an instructor on the first day is standing at the door and greeting students as they enter the room for the first time. This is a great idea that I intend to use in the future! In the past, I have stood at the front of the room, waiting for students to get settled in their seats. I realize now that this may come across as intimidating and may not help make the best first impression. By greeting students individually as they enter, I will be able to impact their learning even sooner than waiting until everyone has assembled. What ways do others here greet their classes?

Individual Teaching Style

I really liked how this module discussed reflecting on our past as we establish our own personal teaching style. Something I never realized is how much my past instructors have influenced the way I teach. My favorite instructors were those who not only had a passion for their subject, but also showed respect for the students who wished to learn about the subject matter, too. They were passionate in the classroom and enthusiastic about passing on their knowledge to their students. I realize now that I try to emulate the teaching styles that were most effective for me as a student. What past experiences influence your role as an instructor?

A verbal review before tests seem to help the student not on the same day but ongoing about the work in which they must retain.This goes over the technique in which they must learn to be a master at the technique at hand on the level there at.

I often go to the work station and watch what the student is preparing and whne it's good .i make a big positive deal about the success.When they need help i offer it in a way where it's sincere.This is a great way to show the student I care they do well.

I have also found if you use the students name and ask a leading question it can really break the ice

I could actually relate to this topic. When I first began teaching, I was a little hesitant by eye contact with students. I quickly realized that you must CONNECT with students. You simply cannot connect if there is no contact made.

It is good to have eye contanct and walk around to room so that the students will not feal uncomfortable and he or she will be more relaxed. Pluss it will give the instructor up and going and not be bored giving the lesson out and then inturn makes the students bored and they will not listen and learn.
